All the problematic aspects aside, I actually like the idea of the left doing socialising events like this. Back when the labour movement was big they did things like this all the time: Dances, bands, sports teams, clubs for retirees. They inserted themselves in every aspect of working class life and facilitated an ecosystem of working class culture and community. I believe it made the movement stronger, made life better for the people participating and helped build class conscience.
Yeah I think this event is kinda cringe but I'm not really inherently opposed to the idea in general.
When I was just starting to become a leftist I saw the DSA at an event I was at and offered to help, the leader or one of the higher us for that branch went out of his way to touch me as he wrapped this duct tape on my arm to identify me as a helper, then handed the roll of tape to my cis male partner so he could put it on for himself
