HELP: Looking for mods that to take over community! UPDATED (sh.itjust.works)

Update: M_F (https://sh.itjust.works/u/m_f@lemm.ee has ) has kindly stepped up to be lead moderator on all the comic communities! That makes me very happy that they will continue!!! If you reached out to help, please work with M_F directly. Thanks again M_F!!!!

TLDR: I’m sad to report that I will no longer be posting daily comics as I just don’t have the time :( If anyone wants to take over the daily posts, please DM me. Ideally, there would be 2-3 people to split up posting duties to make it easier.

The longer story is, I run my own graphics business which is my regular full-time gig. On top of that, at the beginning of the year. I started my lifelong passion project and created my own comic strip called Bello Bear (https://sh.itjust.works/c/bellobearofficial@lemmy.world). Sadly, there is only so much time in day and running a full-time business, a passion project, and also having some sort of home life at the same time is just not possible.

Even though posting the daily comics is only about a half hour of my time, it adds up. It’s also 7 days a week and though I’m a creature of habit, it is a grind. I would rather dedicate that time to my passion project, which is currently limited to only Mon, Wed, and Friday releases as I'm already stretched thin.

@m_f@discuss.online - seeing a lot of broken thumbnail pulls from lemm.ee -> discuss.online, there might be some server instance rate limiting going on. Did not happen when posted via sh.itjust.works by Seb etc.

Sunaraus (lemm.ee owner) has a thread about this somewhere in the lemm.ee Meta section, the broken thumbnails means the lemm.ee server could not grab the source image to generate a localized thumbnail of it for the post listing. Rate limiting between servers was mentioned as a frequent cause.

(this breaks the webUI Lemmmy experience for users such as myself who click the thumbnail to get an inline full image, a broken thumbnail causes the image to open as an external link instead)

We just updated the rate limit for images on discuss.online to a high number. Maybe that will fix things 🤞 If it doesn't, let me know and I'll try posting from a sh.itjust.works account.

The broken thumbnails over here have re-fetched (I don't run an instance to know how this works in detail), those broken yesterday in my screenshot above have self-healed and all (past) thumbnails looking great! thanks.

Far Side and Cyanide both directly from their website. The others from GoComics.

I'm willing to help mod and/or post. If someone else wants to post the comics they should go ahead. It's not very Fediverse-like to have me be a central-point-of-failure for posting comics, since I already do a few other comics.

Hello fellow Far Side fans!

About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.

The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). Its surrealistic humor is often based on uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, (often twisted) references to proverbs, or the search for meaning in life… Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Far_Side
