Is there no way to delete dms, or am I just missing it?

As far as I'm aware there is no way to delete DM's even on the website. At least not on my instance.

I would live to be able to disable all DM's completely.

If you block the account, the DMs disappear.

Oh that's odd. I got similar messages and blocking them did clear it for me.

Do you continue to see them in the web interface too?

Not sure actually. I always use boost. Glad yours went away!
