I wonder if anyone will ever make LCD TVs with a backlight resolution as high as the projector. It would be really nice to have the contrast of an OLED without the poor text rendering and the risk of burn in.

Well, they could put a white-ish oled screen behind the lcd and run them at the same resolution, I've seen talks about this but don't remember if it's in production even. Still, some pixel bleeding is prob expected.

I don't have a brand new CRT to look at, but the one I do have has pretty bad contrast. I can tell when it's on with no picture because at best the darkest color is dark grey. Couldn't tell you if it's always been that way or just gotten that way over the past ~25 years.

By comparison, the CRT monitor I have does great contrast. I still use the TV. The monitor just sits in my closest. Don't have the heart to toss it.
