X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, has slashed the number of people on its disinformation and election integrity team just weeks after it said it was hiring for new positions to help it guard against foreign interference.

The cuts, first reported by the tech-focused media outlet The Information, included Aaron Rodericks, the head of the team, said a person familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of concerns about professional consequences.

The person familiar with the cuts said four people had been let go — the entirety of X's election integrity unit in its Dublin office. It's unclear how many people remain on the team.

X did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

at this point, shouldn't Twitter just be an echo chamber for Nazis anyway?

There is no Twitter anymore, it's 𝕏 now... just a twist away from the good luck charm 卐 /s

[-] itsgroundhogdayagain@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

Elon hates when people call it Twitter so I will always all it Twitter.

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Doesn’t Elon deadname his daughter constantly?

[-] Delusional@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

It will always be referred to as "formerly known as twitter." So it should just be called Twitter anyways because that's what everyone knows it as and still calls it since X is the dumbest fucking name imaginable.

[-] jarfil@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Maybe we could call it "TwiXter, the site where reality gets twixted" 🌪️🎩✨🐇

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

It really sucks that fascists can appropriate thousands-years-old symbols and asl.

[-] Th4tGuyII@kbin.social 36 points 2 years ago

It's odd. I still remember the days of memes labelling Twitter as the home of left-leaning activists, but now it's slowly becoming just a better funded truth social

[-] grue@lemmy.world 59 points 2 years ago

That's what happens when it gets bought by a fascist.

[-] orrk@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

ho... how... HOW DARE YOU CALL OUR LORD AND SAVIOR ELON MUSK A FASCIST!? HE IS GOING TO SAVE HUMANITY BY CREATING THE EMP-X-IRE ON MARS!

[-] timmy_dean_sausage@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Amazing! Can't wait for him and all his chronies to fuck off to Mars. Such a selfless act to take out the trash like that!

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 0 points 2 years ago

Those liberals used Twitter traffic to lend aid to quash the Bahrain uprisings, iirc?

[-] brygphilomena@lemmy.world 23 points 2 years ago

Didn't the EU just blast them in the last week or two for the amount of disinformation on their site?

[-] alienanimals@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

Elon Musk will do literally anything to stay in the 24 hour news cycle. Idiots lap it up.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 years ago

Elon tweeted:

Oh you mean the “Election Integrity” Team that was undermining election integrity? Yeah, they’re gone.

Seems like his view is that fact checking is a threat to elections. What a douche.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

Yes, there are many Nazis on Twitter and Musk isn't doing anything about them. That doesn't mean getting rid of this office won't have an effect. Even idiots and assholes can be swayed by the right reframing of information or not even hearing about it if they get rid of a tweet before it goes viral.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 28 points 2 years ago

He is doing something about them: he is specifically and purposefully enabling them.

[-] Wooster@startrek.website 11 points 2 years ago

It bothers me that I can’t tell if this is because Musk is compromised by foreign powers, or is just that kind of trash.

[-] thejml@lemm.ee 18 points 2 years ago

“Why not both?!”

[-] orrk@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

He always has been kind of trash, but now he has regular business meetings with Putin.

In other COMPLETELY UNRELATED News: Russia has been pushing far right isolationist propaganda in the west for the last 20 years or so, going as far as to fund major parties in the Brexit movement, and far right parties all across Europe, and the Republicans in the USA.

[-] CoconutGirl@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I think they should raid the site and find every piece of transphobic shit and put them all in jail. And Musk should be put away for life as he's enabling all of this shit.

[-] shalafi@lemmy.world -3 points 2 years ago

We calling for the arrest and execution of people we don't agree with now? Noted. When the Nazis take over, I'm passing your name on.

How does this angry child have a single upvote?!

[-] CoconutGirl@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Maybe you'd change your mind if you were constantly being harassed by people online because of troll farms like this. Not to mention that places like that enable people to stalk and terrorize trans people IRL. Besides, I never called for executions, that's you just putting words in my mouth. And by your own admission, I'm not surprised you'd collaborate with nazis either or that you actually believe that they could take over. Guess that speaks volumes about you.

[-] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago

Wow, they still had one at this point? Amazing!

[-] Miclux@lemmings.world 7 points 2 years ago

Like anyone with a normally developed brain would have believed it.
