Wasn't aware importing your posts is a thing, even if it's with its own tool - pretty cool!

If I wouldn't run mastodon with a hand full of other people already, I'd probably set up GTS and migrate. Though I'd have to see what's there on web interfaces currently, got pretty used to the mastodon multiple columns "advanced" interface.

If I could not just migrate to a new instance, but actually convert my existing (self-hosted, single-user) Mastodon instance to a GoToSocial instance, I would do it tomorrow. I don't want to lose the domain I picked for my Mastodon instance though.

I remember seeing somebody working on a project to convert the Mastodon database to a GTS database, so this may yet happen.

Edit: Found it. It was an issue in the GTS GitHub repo: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/issues/128

I could use more words on the why besides that it's leaner

It's much leaner and also has some nice privacy/consent features that Mastodon lacks.

@poVoq Not being able to follow hashtags and see replies outside the echo chamber sounds like kind of a pain.

Thanks for sharing your notes.

A single user mastodon instance has the same issues, any hashtags you can see will be from users you already follow. You need to subscribe to a relay to see more posts (Which GTS actually currently doesn't support, so you need to follow tags from something like https://relay.fedi.buzz/)
