I really don't think the average Lemmy user has TikTok.

Most of us are here because of us refusing to use unethical platforms. That's the best thing about Lemmy, we have standards.

Not that (I think most Lemmy users probably do have YouTube and I KNOW a lot have Tumblr,) I just don't think TikTok's content appeals to the average Lemmy user.

YouTube is the only one I can't let go off, there are podcasts and creators that will forever be exclusive to that platform that I ashamedly do care about

Not only that, but Tiktok is for actual morons. You made a video? and posted it to the internet? WOW SUCH INNOVATION. NICE HAND DANCE.

Clearly you've never used TikTok. The algorithm is amazing.

I never used TikTok. I never will use TikTok.

If vine still existed, it would be Elon’s now.

We need a federated TikTok alternative

We need a federated TikTok alternative

I don't.

Yeah something like that would be awesome

How about federated Vine instead?

As a rule, multinationals agree to do what the government wants. You'll notice that TikTok also agreed to follow the EU's various new rules on social media. It's only a few American firms that have the power and chutzpah to ignore local governments and do whatever they want.
