Summary

Bradley Bartell, a Trump voter from Wisconsin, started a GoFundMe to raise $3,000 for his wife Camila Muñoz’s bond after ICE detained her.

Muñoz, a Peruvian citizen, overstayed her work-study visa due to the pandemic and was seeking legal residency as Bartell’s spouse. She was arrested returning from a honeymoon in Puerto Rico.

Bartell continues to maintain that he does not regret voting for Trump.

Since Trump’s return to office, ICE has arrested over 90,000 immigrants.

Americans doing a GoFundMe is always funny to me. Like you clearly understand if you pool together money, you can make a big impact. For example when little Timmy needs a big operation and can't afford it, people can start a GoFundMe, everyone chips in a little bit of money and Timmy is covered. So if we scale that up a bit... NO, THAT'S COMMUNISM!

[-] Seleni@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

It’s racism. In America the answer is almost always racism.

Basically, with a GoFundMe, or ‘churches taking care of the poor’, or whathaveyou, you can make sure your money goes only to the poor Good Christian white folks, and none of it gets used to help those icky brown folks. Unlike government programs which have to help everyone equally.

How do I donate negative amounts?

[-] AshMan85@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Donating thoughts and prayers 🙏

[-] deathbird@mander.xyz 11 points 1 year ago

Why the fuck should anybody give this guy money to help him avoid the inevitable consequences of the policy regime that he voted in and still supports?

[-] Lootboblin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Probably the same idiots that are subbing to Andrew Tate’s Hustler’s University.

[-] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

You'd swear this was in Egypt because that dumbass is in de nile.

[-] redlemace@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I'm not against helping but in this case ....

  1. "overstayed her work-study visa" -> Break the rules and it's likely there will be consequences. The reason why does not matter. ( although the case handling officer can show sympathy if they seem the reason valid )
  2. I'm no Trump fan, but he was clear on his plans, yet he still voted for trump

So, no, I'm not donating.

[-] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah fr, this is awful PR. Of course he would vote for Trump again, he is doing exactly what he promised and this fucker knows it.

She did break the law, any way you look at it.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Getting to and staying in the country shouldn’t be so hard. To me, that seems like the fundamental issue, and so many breaking the law was a workaround to a shitty system.

[-] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Aha ha hahahahaha! Fuck you Trump long. This is the FO part of FAFO.

[-] rslogix89@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

$3000? What do we look like were make of eggs… get fucked my guy. You voted for this. I would say suck an egg, but clearly you can’t afford it.

[-] jabeez@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago

$3000? What do we look like were make of eggs

oh man, glad I didn't have mouthful of beverage...or eggs...when I read this, well done!

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

Sending you thoughts and prayers, like you always do too, prayers are to baphomet, though

[-] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

You can’t fix stupid. Brad I hope you’re suffering as much as your wife.

[-] Helvetica@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Bartell, on voting for Trump despite his immigration policies: "He didn't create the system, but he does have an opportunity to improve it. Hopefully, all this attention will bring to light how broken it is."

Sheer delusion. I got news for you chump, Trump doesn't give a shit about fixing anything. He's not going to help you. He doesn't feel gratitude, he doesn't understand ethics. He already told you he only needed your vote one more time, he got it and now you're disposable.

[-] breezeblock@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

He's a really uninformed and unanalytical person. Exactly the kind of voter trump wants.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Whomp whomp

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 3 points 1 year ago

No. Fuck you for asking, Bradley Bartell.

They thought Trump was gonna make them all so rich, now they're begging for money and eggs. And it's just the beginning.

Stay in school.

Use your own bootstraps.

[-] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 2 points 1 year ago

Brad, this is what Trump does. You may succeed in raising that money, but someone else may not be so lucky. What would you say then?

[-] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 year ago

Brad probably doesn't give a flying fuck what happens to other people's families. That's a core tenet of conservatism in 2025.

[-] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 2 points 1 year ago

I know, he deserves what he gets. His wife doesn't seem the sharpest tool in the shed either.

[-] jacecomix@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

most likely, some form of "fuck you, got mine"

[-] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

My vote for Harris was my attempt at helping you. Looks like you’re gonna need some bootstraps, bud.

[-] thefartographer@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Of course he has no regrets.

  1. He proudly voted for Trump, therefore he has no compassion for anyone who is not himself
  2. He proudly voted for Trump, a man known to value women only as a commodity. Why would he worry about this wife when he can get a new one at equal or better value?
  3. He proudly voted for Trump, a known grifter and therefore probably appreciates a good grift. These donations are likely going to support himself and he'll gladly let his wife be the face of "illegal immigrants can look like anyone."

How could he have any regrets? He's suddenly getting so much attention. See points 1 and 2.

$3,000? Why won't he use the money trump saved him on eggs?

[-] boydster@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's so frustrating that Camila doesn't deserve any of this, but the person saying they wouldn't change their decision and does deserve to see consequences will refuse to actually feel them.

Like, I want her out, but how dare this asshole say he regrets nothing while asking others to bail him out for the thing he voted for and still wants more of? Why is a social safety net OK in this case to this guy, but not for anyone else?

The detentions are a for-profit endeavor, the people are being treated inhumanely, and this is all some Nazi-level shit. I want all the allies that can be won away from the neofascists. I fucking hate this particular dude's refusal to recognize the taste of boot leather though, even as it impacts his supposed loved ones. It's maddening.

Free Camila.

Is there a r/leopards_ate_my_face here on Lemmy?

[-] Bort@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Nvm, I found it https://sh.itjust.works/c/leopardsatemyface@lemmy.world and this post is already there lol

[-] girlthing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If this man were to voice any sentiments short of full-throated Trump endorsement, would it make him more likely to see his wife again?

He could be terminally stupid, or this could just be the MAGA version of respectability politics. Pretending you're still one of the good ones so the leopards stay away from your face long enough for you and your loved ones to escape.

[-] MetalMachine@feddit.nl 1 points 1 year ago

Shooting yourself in the foot

[-] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

Stupid fucks. Got what he deserved.

[-] CallateCoyote@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Truthfully, I don’t feel bad for either of them. He’s a moron and she married the douche.

[-] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Good to see it's only at $800 at this time. I really hope it fails, but i have my doubts.
