This bill can be stopped. Contact your representatives.

While I don't want to discourage anyone from contacting their representatives, mine refused to show up to a rather large town hall meeting. Went so far as to refuse to respond to all inquiries from multiple parties and news media whether or not he would attend. Over a thousand people showed up by my estimates to address their grievances to an empty chair.

What if my representative is Dick Durbin?

Tell him to quit being a dick and start being a Richard.

Manufactured opposition, performing one of the most crucial tasks to facilitate the fascist coup.

Democracy was fun while it lasted, wasn't it?

We should be living in a golden age of knowledge and science.
Instead we get this mockery of life.

Not to worry, if the world plays out like a sci fi TV show we will be! And it will be eerily accurate and relative to the timeline of events that lead there in said show

Jokes aside, yes

You had democracy? When?

[-] EmpireInDecay@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

I can't recall when we've had democracy or a representative government

[-] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 1 week ago

That's because you live in a propaganda filled fantasy land.

A federal republic is a federation of states with a republican form of government. At its core, the literal meaning of the word republic when used to reference a form of government means a country that is governed by elected representatives and by an elected leader, such as a president, rather than by a monarch or any hereditary aristocracy.

We have a Republic in name only, oligarchy politicians like the DNC and RNC only represent the monied class in government. We are left to fend for ourselves.

Just to be clear: Durbin doesn't misunderstand. He's pretending to be stupid because someone's paying him to be that way.
