I mean, they're right though

[-] Wilco@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

True. That and it is funny that we can understand it.

10/10 -Would not want to eat salat with a spon.

[-] casmael@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

Especially for a Greek salad I remember like a whole block of feta on top of that shit

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 week ago

I mean I find any salad pretty frustrating to eat, the ones with a lot of ingredients you can't get the stuff on the fork, and the mostly leafy ones I feel like a cow ruminating for an hour to get 50 calories in..

[-] apotheotic@beehaw.org 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You're not supposed to use a fork, obviously. eat SALAT with SPON

Jokes aside a nice salad with sliced ingredients as opposed to diced is pretty easy to eat and can be chock full of nutrients and calories if so desired

I automatically disregard anyone's opinion if they put a space before a punctuation mark.

This is the first time I've seen it inconsistently applied so consistently.

[-] wieson@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

Just fyi, in French orthography it is correct to put a space before a question mark. So please don't disregard comments here on international lemmy, since i.e. phone keyboards put it there automatically.

you do realize that saying these people are native french speakers isn't exactly helping their case, right

[-] wieson@feddit.org -4 points 1 week ago

What do you mean? Are one's native language and the validity of one's opinion connected?

Laughing about the "Fr*nch" without knowing why is an uneducated thing.

As you are probably Swedish or German, I expect more informed jokes than just >hatred towards France, the French people [etc.]

[-] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Wow that's a pretty racist thing for you to say about Americans buddy.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

you can expect into one hand and shit into the other, and see which one fills up first

france is one of the main imperial nations, i see no reason to whinge about anti-france jokes, just like i see no reason to whinge about british, belgian, dutch, or american jokes.

Hell i'll swallow a decent amount of swede jokes, since we just wholesale made finland part of our nation and tried to colonize other parts of the world, we just didn't particularly succeed..

Why do people have to support their claim the French aren't nice when the French already do their best to be disliked? Have you ever experienced not being French in France? Have you ever experienced the French in their (former) colonies, how they act towards the locals? Have you ever experienced a French tourist in a different country, being angry because not everyone speaks French? I have experienced all of these scenarios. I have family in France, they aren't different. My best friend is French, she left France because she thinks all French people are assholes. She's never going back.

Hatred towards the French is what the French created. They were so successful doing this, there's no need to elaborate why exactly we're making fun of them.

I doubt you are French because if you were you would have surrendered immediately, so why bother defending them.

[-] wieson@feddit.org 0 points 1 week ago

Have you ever experienced not being French in France?

Yes. And always have they been nice and helpful to me. When they sensed that I was stuck with my french, they tried to switch to English. Which wasn't better than my french, but hey, who's counting.

Have you ever experienced the French in their (former) colonies, how they act towards the locals?

No. And I respect that the perspective from (former) colonies can be quite negative.

Have you ever experienced a French tourist in a different country, being angry because not everyone speaks French?

No, not ever. I have heard tourists speaking french here and there, but no notable occurrences.

I doubt you are French

I'm not.

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

When they sensed that I was stuck with my french

So you speak some French. They are friendlier to French speaking people or French car owners, but only a tiny bit. Ever sat at a table full of French people? They will just act like you're not even there. Or worse, act angry because another French person could have sat on your chair. Especially in rural areas the French are assholes. They even make fun of foreigners right in your face because they believe you don't understand what they are saying (but my French is good enough to understand that).

No. And I respect that the perspective from (former) colonies can be quite negative.

They treat them like slaves. I've seen them hit locals, pay them much less than minimum wage, I've seen entire parts of cities where locals weren't allowed because they are black, put children to work with chemicals without protection. I've seen this in Djibouti, Seychelles and Madagascar.

No, not ever. I have heard tourists speaking french here and there, but no notable occurrences.

Most French tourists here in NL are assholes. French tourists in French (former) colonies are massive assholes (except towards other French people). I just got back from holiday in Cambodia, many French tourists I've seen were assholes too (not all).

I'm not.

Omelette du fromage.

I've had to work with the French when I was in the navy. Those people were extremily rude. They feel like they are better then the rest, so superior they can treat others like peasant scum.

One of my cousins speaks fluently English, unless there are other French people around. He's ashamed for knowing English so he just makes fun of you and treats you like shit in front of others but changes to being kind when you're alone with him. Another cousin knows many languages, he works in a 5 star hotel in Paris. But he's gay, so he's treated like shit as well. He can't be openly gay because he gets beaten too often. So the kind and social French are being bullied by the rest, which makes the French in general assholes.

Sure, not every French person is an asshole, just the vast majority.

[-] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

I disregard all French opinions because they're French.

[-] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Unpopular opinion: most foods are better to eat with a spoon (as long as you don't have to cut them, e.g. steak).

[-] Prok@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

At least they have a good atmosphere
