jellies (lemmy.ca)
submitted 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) by bigfatzero@lemmy.ca to c/imadethis@lemm.ee

Welcome to jellies!

Jellies #1,2 and 3 were pieces I made for a local art show this winter. They are constructed of reclaim hand pounded copper and local beach wood and stones.

All sold

Commissioned custom jellies available on order.

I finally got a Lemmy sign in for just art stuff. You can contact me here for any inquiries about purchases or custom work. I've been transitioning from American social media and making new fedi accounts and spreading them about. I enjoy sharing my work here and Is m just looking for a new way to reach people with my artistic endeavors.

I should also add I am happy to arrange barter for goods or services as opposed to cash for art pieces.

absolutely beautiful!!

how long do they take you on average? also how much do you sell them for generally?

Thank you. It takes about 30-40hrs to make one. That's from raw reclaim material (wire and pipe, local stones and beach finds). Not including time spent sourcing materials or making shipping crates when necessary.

I charge $300/CAD per jelly plus shipping to you. Each is original. No reproductions or remakes.

You can reach me on email for now.

I'm still establishing as an artist that sells so prices are lower to encourage getting my shop empty and my name out there.

Thank you for the interest.

These are beautiful! I love the diversity of texture in the different tendrils.

These are really beautiful! I can see that they take a lot of craftsmanship. How did you start doing this kind of sculpture?

[-] bigfatzero@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

It's hard to explain really. I just sort of did. I've always made art in some way. One day I picked up a hammer and a piece of old pipe. Then I braised some wire to it and it became something. I've never been able to explain it well. It just sort of happens. I don't have any training or extra knowledge other than what I have gained on my own.

I know emrakul was inspired by jellies so we're going full circle, but the left one has big emrakul vibes.

I like the one on the left -- at first glance it looks like just a decorative piece, but the rounded top recalls a natural phenomena, something at the cosmic level like the formation of constellations, or at the atomic level perhaps; so the "tentacles" come off as bursts of energy. The one in front is fun, it makes me think of an octopus riding a chicken that's laying an egg.
