I hope to read more about American companies crying capitalistic tears

[-] mesamunefire@lemmy.world 51 points 1 week ago

I'm hoping with enough pain, there will be meaningful change.

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Americans are stupid and proudly ignorant. I say this as an American who wishes it would change.

[-] Joeffect@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

More bigger tariffs! That will solve the problem

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

One BILLION percent!

*Dr Evil laugh *

[-] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 103 points 1 week ago

Keep up the good work. Every dollar sent here is a dollar that will work against you.

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

and hopefully florida will stop recieving canadian tourists too.

[-] HamsterRage@lemmy.ca 67 points 1 week ago

Buy Canadian is best, but anything will do if it isn't American.

[-] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 49 points 1 week ago

My order of operations is Canadian -> European -> Anywhere else on the planet -> Decide if I actually need the thing or not -> Chinese -> American.

[-] unsettlinglymoist@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

As an American mine is Europe/Canada > the rest of the developed world OR blue states > Mexico > other countries > red states. It's surprisingly easy to avoid food from red states. For tech/online services I prefer European over everywhere else.

🙂 keep up the good work. As an American, I’m boycotting what I can but most our shit is just made in China anyway

[-] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 42 points 1 week ago

Cripple that wretched country to the death.

In other news: Boo Hoo.

Fuck America under the current government. It’ll take decades to repair the damage the autistic Nazi and his cuck orange granddaddy have done not only to Canada but the world.

It'll take far longer to repair the damage they're doing to America. I'm not even sure most of it can be repaired.

Honestly, boycott us. Our capitalist classes need to be taken down a peg.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I never thought I'd say it, but I hope the entire world shuns America and fucks us over.

I doubt even that will fix us, though. We are past some kind of disinformation event horizon, where most of us will never see much reality outside their local life, including leaders who are drinking the kool-aid. Even Idiocracy is kinda idyllic because at least Kamancho was relatively open minded.

[-] P1nkman@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

If you'd told me 6 months ago that I'd rather buy Chinese products than American, I would've put all my money on Trump. Or just not believed you, because it sounds insane.

Well, here we are...

[-] LeninsOvaries@lemmy.cafe 10 points 1 week ago

You don't need to politicise disabilities.

[-] SirMaple__@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 week ago

Uh yeah. That's the whole point!

Maybe think before you vote next time or actually vote!

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Elbows up Canada! 🦫

[-] Apple87sagan@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

Starve the greedy parasites, all of them.

[-] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 week ago

Wonderful news. Keep it up even when tariffs are removed. We MUST grow Canadian made for Canadians to purchase.

[-] Kamikazimatt@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

See, that’s the thing that gets me. Our countries have had a great trade relationship for a long while now and some giant Cheeto needs to go and piss on everyone’s shoes.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, produce Canadian items so the American market suffers. Make the people who voted for this situation realize what they’ve done to themselves.

[-] Jhuskindle@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

As an American: good. No one here wanted this nonsense. Not even magas.

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 week ago

Bleed them dry

I don't live too far from the Canadian border. I'm sensing an opportunity to make bank on black market tools and office supplies.

[-] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 week ago

I smuggled 4 import vehicles in my butt when I crossed the Mexican border yesterday. They’ll never take me alive.

[-] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

As an American, I hope the pain that these companies experience translates to strong and direct pressure on our politicians to grow a fucking spine against the dictator.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

The response, so far, seems to be licking boots, unfortunately.

[-] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Wait until their quarterly earnings come in

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Pfft, just watch, it will be an excuse to fire people in droves/cut wages while executives either get raises for "bold" responses or golden parachutes. Day traders will adore the volatility at the expense of retirement funds. Under duress, companies will merge like crazy since the only barrier now seems to be complying with government ethos. Reduced capital gains will juice the market. The masses will shoulder tariffs.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Next they should take back the Nordiques

[-] JackFrostNCola@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Meanwhile: Canadian manufactutors pulling their hair out while reviewing their books "what are we going to do with all these profits?"

[-] P1nkman@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Same thing happening with local soda and fast food joints in Denmark. Love to see it!
