Empire to third world in 25 years.
Americans still aren't going to rise up though lol
No they won't. They are all talk and no show. Wimpiest of all.
If you were willing to die to fight fascism, you'd be in Ukraine right now. Fuck off with your armchair warrior bullshit.
Edit: woo I pissed off the tankies with this one
yeah fight fascism by joining the Azov Battalion founded by the famous anti-fascist Andriy Biletsky
piss off putin minion
Type of shit they tell you to expect in China, except its the USA
It's the kind of thing that happened in Nazi Germany.
Yep. People just disappearing. There are already a lot of reports. Its straight up facism at work. Thats terrifying.
source for these reports?
Just Type it into your favourite search engine.
So, no?
If you make a claim, the burden of proof lies on you, not the other person to internet search for a mystery article.
Are you referring to the BLM protest arrests in 2020 or is there something current happening beyond this one instance?
I'm not saying this isn't bad, nor that it won't get worse, but if it's already worse, and you're making the claim that it is, I'd like to see some evidence of that.
The people in the US had the chance to vote for a MUCH lesser evil. And they chose to vote for fascism. People get the politics they deserve and with trump at least the leader is as rotten as the country at its core. I'm sure this poor lady does not deserve it. May maga folks experience some of the worst years of their lives for condoning racism, sexism, fascism.
I implore you to go search "Ozturk" on YouTube. A video from the NY Post comes up. Read the comments. I cannot believe the reaction of such an un-empathetic population.
Ok then. Kick scream or fucking do something. There are two outcomes.
-
They arent police, in which case you just followed along random people that try to intimidate you
-
They are police. Oh well, atleast they're American police so it doesn't count if you hit them
I expected it to be more violent based on the title. They actually, went up and explained to her what was happening. At the same time, it did seem kind of odd the way it was done, like they weren't professionals at this.
"Get in the van, there's candy" is also an explanation. But you probably shouldn't believe it when a masked individual is saying it and the van is unmarked.
Well, it does look like he shows her his badge as he's walking up to her. The mask thing is weird though.
Well, it does look like he shows her his badge as he’s walking up to her.
…not at all…? He has his hands in his pockets until he stops walking in front of her, then he takes out his open hand to tell her to stop, then he takes out the other to stop her from walking away. When do you think he showed her a badge?
OK, I guess when I watched the video earlier today it was brighter and I couldn't see it as well. It looked like a badge was maybe in his hand as he walked towards her, but I can see now that it wasn't. It does look like the others pull there badges out though, and have them hanging from their necks as they approach.
They didn't have badges out at first and they didn't show any ID. This is absolutely a situation you could legally draw a gun and start shooting at people. Police should be in uniform and showing ID. This is how militias in "bad" countries abduct and kill people. There's no way to tell them from the police. This is not normal in a western democracy.
I agree, it doesn't seem to have been done the way it should have been.
Its just that based on the title I was expecting a van to drive up, open the door, shove her in, and drive off.
I agree, it doesn’t seem to have been done the way it should have been.
It shouldn't have been done, period
I wasn't commenting on whether it should have or not, just on the way it was executed.
I get that, but it's like you are commenting on how a rapist was not efficient in his raping... not sure there is any value in "how" something that should not have taken place, actually took place
As i said before, I don't know if it should have taken place or not, I don't know enough of the background story.
Kidnapping comes with the threat of violence if you resist. She committed no crime so this is kidnapping.
People get arrested all the time who haven't committed a crime (which does not mean you have been found guilty yet). It's not considered kidnapping. And it does look like he shows his badge before going for her phone. And no, I don't think this was gone about correctly.
I don't know the back story so I'm not commenting on if she should have been taken in or not.

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
