Whatever that stuff is made of it will have a soundproofing effect (perhaps that's its purpose?).

Apparently, this was a social media trend a while back and people who have tried to clean those kind of ceilings have found them infested with all sorts of insects.
I wish there was a way to alter the fov or the focal length or whatever to a more typical setting so you can see how the room actually looks.
