They'd be vomiting if they heard. Americans clearly lack the lobes for business.

There’s a Rule of Acquisition that says, “Tariffs are bad for business.” The very next rule says, “Tariffs are good for business.”

[-] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 month ago

Tariffs are never good for business.

Except for whoever is exempt from them.

I was just thinking about this. That 125% tariff on Chinese goods leaves a lot of room for profit if you can circumvent customs, and then undercut legitimate importers.

There's so much room for "creative" exports. Like Belarus suddenly "producing" oranges and shrimps for the Russian market when Russia forbade the importation of several food products from the EU.

Send goods to country with low tariffs, then send those goods to the US. Even with the extra shipping and cut the other country would get, it's cheaper than 100% + tariffs.

I like your lobes!

the original one was, they nuked thier own planet?

[-] Lydia_K@startrek.website 18 points 1 month ago

I think it was "they irradiated their own planet!?" But basically yes, that was it.

[-] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

And poisoning their own bodies with cigarettes.

[-] teft@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I bet they'd be much more upset about the economic shock than they were about the radiation.

I wonder how many commenters wanted to throw themselves off the Tower of Commerce.

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

You wouldn't if you saw what they charge for usage, cleaning, maintenance, contacting next of kin, etc.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

24th century Ferangi probably have very effective radiation treatment.

(Payable in eighteen easy installments.)

Well, they would applaud the very obvious pump and dump.

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.
