Not quite. They grow Cilium which help determine how far they can grow. If you grow them in a container, they will only grow as far as the Cillum strands go. If you plant in a shallow container, they won't ever grow as big as you expect grocery store produce to grow.
Right, I probably didn’t phrase it right, but the first years growing is all storing sugars for the second years flowering and then seeding yeah?
Container depth shouldn’t matter for that?
