One of my colleges had MDM enabled for staff and students alike. (I realize this is likely a configuration problem, rather than malice or whatever)

The number of students who, nonetheless, did it… mind boggling.

Remote wipe? Lawl fuck no. Not worth the risk that some asshole has a bad day and wipes them all for fun.

I can understand it for certain things but.. frankly there should be some sort of like.. laws? About what your employer can require of you. Sure, company phone go for it, idgaf. But if they would need to remote wipe a device, maaaaaaaybe they shouldn’t be allowed to let employees use their own. You want full control, company, you get to pay for that with another phone, phone line, etc. (extra bonus, most people won’t carry the work phone when they are off work, so they are less reachable for unpaid labor :) )

That article is full of speculation; “if this” and “if that” and “if this other thing” than it will be great for everyone!

“If” is doing a hell of a lot of heavy lifting..

Fun fact - if you order a bunch of stuff non-prime, the ship time will be like a week and a half or whatever. If you then upgrade to prime (even the free trial), the delivery estimate suddenly recalculates and it’ll be there in 2 days.

It’s artificially slowed, by obscene amounts, to encourage paying for the subscription. Which other sites don’t do.

Monoculture=bad isn’t really new. It’s been obvious for a long time.

There are some semi-wetlands around the college I attended. They are “untouched study areas” after being leveled for one reason or another. Some of them they planted with a variety of native flora, some of it was left to do its own thing, some of it was left but managed.

The intentionally seeded areas with a diversity of species recovered the most fully (to date - 40+ year project) and the fastest. They spread into the rest and helped reclaim it as well, quite quickly. However, all of the land went through several stages where it looked like it was failing, and it’s actually really important to just let that happen, it’s part of the cycle that doesn’t get to happen in managed forest land.

Depending how it’s implemented, gamers are absolutely impacted by it.

Some of the chatter is that even already-released games would be subject to this change, meaning a lot of devs might pull their backlog to avoid going broke on a game they put out years ago and is now free (or heavily reduced). Or games that have always been free, now the dev has to choose if they want to charge for a historically free game or pull it completely.

This is dev hostile, but it’s also consumer hostile.

He should try a jar. That didn’t work for me either, but as a frog it might be more difficult.

Wtf does this mean? It’s buried at the end of the article.

A few days after the girl's disappearance, Berlin police said in a statement that there were "indications" that the woman was "in an exceptional psychological situation."

Does it mean suicidal? The earlier mention of “not assuming additional parties were involved” seems to indicate as much, but intentionally vague, euphemistic language makes it hard to tell.

Or does it mean she was being held and/or tortured? That someone was after her..??

Not only that, the powers that are in control of the country have intentionally limited our ability to collectivize, they have reduced our wages as much as they can to keep us desperate, they have reduced our time off to keep us tired. They do not want us to fight and they have structured it such that we won’t until we are all entirely broken.

Work from home is an issue because we realized we can have lives again, and maybe we could even work less!

But then we have more time to focus on things that matter, like protesting and unionizing.

I’ve thought about this a lot. Not this specific thing, but Klingon culture generally.

Like their culture is all about death in battle and glory and honor.. so sure maybe they don’t have doctors (those redundant organs help a lot) but what about farmers and cooks? What about builders, bankers, literally anything other than warriors which are necessary for a society to function?

If nothing but death in battle is worthwhile to pursue, how does their society not entirely collapse? Or is the focus on battle a newer shift on their society, now that they have access to other societies to do the grunt work?
