The justification for this seems to be “Yes we know you’ve done the hard part by taking action against them, but we simply don’t trust you to stick to that decision, and thus must monitor you to ensure you do what we want you to do with your life. Oh, but we’ll make sure your abuser knows all about it, whether you want them involved or not. That’ll definitely help keep those kids safe!”

I can absolutely see how that would be traumatic and intrusive. I hope this challenge goes places.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the RealID thing, which puts a star on your drivers license after you verify some info.

It’s used for domestic flying but not strictly required until 2025. Still a very common thing for people to get when they are renewing - the act for it was passed in 2005 and when I went to get an address change around 2013 it was offered to me but I didn’t have proof of address and had a valid passport so declined.

Why? The ‘adults’ clearly aren’t doing shit.

And gen z has the most to lose if shit continues heading downhill..

Nearly every herbivore will eat meat if it can. They just aren’t evolved to be good at catching live things. But meat is much better nutritionally than plants, so they go for it when they can.

If you spend enough time around farms, you’ll see cows eating young chickens or small birds that get too close, if you leave meat lures for animals, deer are often the first that show up to eat it, etc.

Honestly if my friend did this I’d let her reorganize my kitchen.

She’s about the same height as me, and lives in a tiny place, so she’d probably have some good ideas.

Also my cabinets and drawers are a mis-match hodgepodge (they aren’t all the same depth or height; some of them have lost half their volume for unknown ancient-house reasons) so I’m always down for ideas.

Best game ever for sounds (in this context), imho, is dysmantle. People have described the sound track as “hikers listening to birds”. Music only happens in specific places, it’s mostly very relaxing/peaceful, and other than that it’s just listening to occasional zombies/turrets, environmental sounds, audio recordings, and breaking stuff.

I always turn the music and sfx way down (voice stays pretty high, sfx about 20% lower, and music very low) so I legit didn’t notice the lack of music for 22 hours of actual play time (out of the about 100 I put into it). But I didn’t change the sound settings at all for it, it was perfect.

A peeve of mine is the term “pet peeve”. 😅

If something bothers you so, why the fuck would you keep, nurture, and tend to it as a pet?

I propose it change to haunting peeve, because you don’t want it, can’t get rid of it, and it exists regardless if you think about it or not.

😁 (I’m not super serious about this, but “pet peeve” really does low-key bother me)

Unfortunately this all happened in my early 20s, I went to college after, but there’s still a big gap that can’t be explained by school alone (and it’s a gap because I had military service prior to that which I always list)

I got stuck on the tempy-go-round (only able to find contracts due to gaps, and too many contracts to land a permanent job - several employers asked why I prefer contracts… I don’t, it’s all I could get.. but that answer is it’s own can of worms..). I finally found a permanent job and realized I spent so much time on contracts that I can’t do the same thing day in day out for more than a year without driving myself bonkers. Ultimate catch-22.

So I’m going back to contracts. However, not entry level desperation contracts, ones actually using my degree. Covid remote work was an absolute silver lining for my field - used to be impossible to find positions, now they are there and pay super well (6 mths to make what I make in a year now), but mostly contract.

I also had this, across multiple school districts (changed schools several times).

And I was mostly very rural. Sure the trip took an hour or so because I was typically first on last off, but it was always there, and even waited for me if they saw me coming (1/4 mile driveway in one place, but never really close to the stop either way).

You know, I happen to be ok with it plateauing, as long as I’m on the damn plateau.

I’m not even within view range of the plateau at the moment. Might even be a different continent.

But then, I’m not dumb enough to keep working/trying to earn more once I’m set to be comfortable for the rest of my life. So maybe that’s the difference.

Haha you are right, he did try to reinvent the subway!

And any of the problems he mentioned could basically be fixed by spending -more- on public transit, rather than less… with the exception of it leaving from wherever you want and there being other people (though the more they run, the fewer people need to take each).
