I think Mozilla has something like this as well (also a subscription).

I’m of the opinion that, at this point, one of the best infosec things a company could do is include a subscription like this (assuming they are safe and work as intended) for all employees as part of their compensation package, much the way they sometimes provide financial consulting services or gym memberships. Maybe one of the providers will start offering enterprise packages.

If we could purge large quantities of data on employees, it would be that much harder to use social engineering for hacking. As a bonus, if enough people got themselves purged, it would entirely disrupt the data harvesting and selling models, potentially making them worthless. That would be a huge win.

But I don’t think many people are going to pay for it themselves. They just won’t care that much. So as a work perk, it incentivizes them to use it by being free.

I’m not in IT or anything, but my close friend is in security, so it’s something I consider quite a bit.

Edit to add: obviously I’d rather see it illegal to collect data and sell it and all but that’s not going to happen any time soon, and this could be a lot faster. And if it becomes a business expense, businesses might just push for legislation..

Speaking from experience, it functionally ruined them, at least the early macs -exact os/model unknown- we had (school computers well behind the curve and all). They’d need to be reformatted after. It would delete, then iirc just crash and you’d reboot into errors (my memory of this is spotty, it was a very long time ago)

I used to do that in the computer lab when I was supposed to be doing typing practice. Fucking hate typing “properly”.

Note: I am not a verifiable source, this is anecdata.

I do the same thing, but you do realize you do it -because- it’s a problem, right?

Like you shouldn’t need a separate email for “I want to buy this/sign up for this, but I know I’m going to get a fuckton of emails so I need to use this separate email address to protect my main one from junk”. That just shouldn’t be a thing.

I never felt weird posting to Reddit that I was a woman, and never got any weird dms or anything.. no clue why, just luck I suppose. Or could have to do with where/how I shared that info.. either way I was openly asexually female for the entire 5 years I had an actual account. Worst that happened was a bit of banter with a user about whether or not boobs float (something I honestly don’t know); they told me to go check and report back and I said their man boobs would be more likely than mine to float since I’m thin and not well endowed.

But I’ve been more vocal about it here because Lemmy is an absolute sausage party, and it’s so so so so obvious. It hasn’t been weird here at all either, but there also aren’t a lot of conversations in which I feel it necessary to divulge (probably because it’s a sausage party, so those sorts of conversations don’t happen as much)

I wasn’t using that as a treat myself excuse, but I’m shopping for a fancy new bed frame (with headboard storage, power strip, lights, and drawers underneath to keep my cats out) and it was gunna be a birthday gift to myself, but now it’s a women’s day/birthday gift 🤭

That Moe never showed up in those communities or I might have stuck around! :p

I cannot roleplay (I’m really bad at being anyone but myself).

Therefore I need my character to be as close to me as possible (within limits ofc, like she doesn’t have to be human or anything).

Therefore, I ideally need someone who can’t stick with anything at all long enough to get good at it, but who is reasonably proficient, as a beginner/intermediate, with everything they have ever come across, even in passing. Bonus points for being mostly useless in a practical way, but having huge lore skill bonuses as a tradeoff from the multiclassing.

This multi class is exactly that. It’s all the hobbies I’ve picked up and bought supplies for and never did again. And like my supplies, you have to be cunning to use that hodgepodge to get something actually useful (barely related to the existing hobbies) done.

There’s a whole world of possibilities for how to run something like that and make it enjoyable (even if not always/often super useful - like buying all the equipment that doesn’t put you over encumbrance).

(I don’t think I’ve ever single-classed a campaign, I’ve always at least dual-classed, and often mixed-race too)

This is my plan for next Friday. Only waiting for my earned bonus.

Quit with nothing lined up just cuz I can’t do this anymore (spent 6 mths saving up for this so I can take my time). Gunna spend a few months playing video games and working on my depression and anxiety.

This is great advice. I wish we had universal healthcare and a UBI/socialized housing so everyone could just walk when it sucks. But that’s precisely why we don’t have those things. Can’t let people have real choices or they will choose to walk.

This would be a great prank/flashmob, have people dress up like this, ideally with very stiff “clothing” that doesn’t show the movement, and just sit super still.

Or, and hear me out here…

Maybe this person deleted their content for some other reason. It happens all the time, I’ve come across gobs and gobs of deleted comments and that was well before the protests.

Sure more people deleted stuff because of the protests, but tons of people did so either way. I was one of them. My comments never stayed live for more than a week or two.

Quality old school reference.

Omg I tried to google that to see how old it was and there are so many NEW lifelock data breaches! I can’t even find that original shitshow.

I legit feel really bad for all the people who got scammed by major companies “anti-“ programs.. They don’t know better and our laws should be so much more robust.

I’ve been seeing a lot of shit about google being evil lately… I’m actively transitioning off their products. I’ve now got Firefox on my phone (I fucking can’t do safari, it’s so trash), I’m off android (about a year now) which was super fucking difficult. iOS is much worse, and they aren’t that much better as a company, but it gets updates for more than 2 years..but I hear Linux phones are improving so that will probably be my next move.

My next step is getting rid of gmail which I’ve been on basically since it was launched.. that’s going to be painful.

Tons of people don’t have HDR yet. It takes a while for tech to spread, especially when it’s not something many people are gunna go replace a several hundred dollar device for, nor is it necessarily a selling point when shopping for new TVs.

I thought my 4k smart tv was new enough to have it by default since I bought it in 2019, but it doesn’t.
