“Hate to be that guy but…”

“I stopped at “but”. I also hate that guy. Bye.”

Well that’s fucking spiffy.

Thanks!

I pre-ordered a game once. It came out 09NOV2010.

Still haven’t played it. Probably never will. The HD remaster is on steam now with mixed reviews.

Never made that mistake again.

Ah, gotcha, yeah I use my pihole rather manually to block things I don’t recognize. It’s kinda fun to see what breaks (usually fucking nothing, surprise surprise).

So like I get an ad on a page, nope, go into pihole and block literally anything from that device in tht time range which I don’t recognize as the url I wanted or some necessary component, reload and see what happens.

I’ve broken a few games and pages doing that, but it’s easy enough to walk back, just reload the thing and you get a new query to unblock.

But it’s nice for preventing my tv from reporting on my behavior (I like the apps, not the shady data collection or ads), shady sites as you say, and with a basic vpn, golden on mobile too.

It’s a shame it doesn’t handle cookies tho. I’m on ghostery dawn browser which takes that stuff as a top priority (dawn hasn’t been updated in a year so I’m using it cautiously for link handling only, with ghost tabs as the default so my activity and trackers clear when I close the browser) but I’d prefer a single solution for everything network wide..

Do you mean for cookie control? I don’t think pihole can do that (and some basic searches seem to agree), but again idk how the whole thing works..

It’s easy af to set up for adblocking though. I’m not super tech savvy and it took like an hour, start to finish, including time to track down a USB.

How do you, personally, block cookies? Like, manually or with an extension or..? Do all your devices have the block?

I run a pihole, but I think cookies work very differently than ad dns. I don’t really understand the various components of the internet, tbh.

You could check out ghostery bowser if it’s available, it has a pretty robust design for trackers. Idk if it would be a privacy score, persey but it tells you all about the trackers it sees on the site, what they are for, how often they are seen, etc. (like a space dot com article had 71 total trackers: 46 advertising trackers, 9 site analytics, 6 cdn, 3 auto video player, 2 misc, 2 essential, 2 social media, and 1 hosting). If you click into the details it gives a hefty report of who is collecting the data, so it breaks down who each of the 46 advertising trackers are, for example.

It’s not forgiving at all, in my experience. But the iOS ghostery dawn browser hasn’t been updated in a while (in favor of their safari extension) and I’m not sure what the android version is like.

Might be worth a look if that’s something you are interested in. The dawn browser also lets you open everything in ghost tabs by default, and when you clear those, it clears all trackers that may have been set. It also seems to spoof location information, because every site I visit thinks I’m from a different part of the country.

I’ve already educated myself on this stuff, and continue to do so as more information comes out, but thanks.

The condescending tone is classic considering the thing you linked has right in it:

“However, it is increasingly clear that BMI is a rather poor indicator of percent of body fat. Importantly, the BMI also does not capture information on the mass of fat in different body sites. The latter is related not only to untoward health issues but to social issues as well. Lastly, current evidence indicates there is a wide range of BMIs over which mortality risk is modest, and this is age related. All of these issues are discussed in this brief review.”

It’s a poor indicator because it lacks scientific rigor, aka pseudoscience.

When physical media dies, I no longer have a good reason to buy consoles.. that’s literally the whole reason I bother with them - I like browsing through the cases to pick games to play.

I have through ps5, and plan to get a series s or whatever the newest with-optical Xbox is (because I can skip the one, nicely backward compatible), but that’s likely where I end the console journey. As it is now it’s getting harder to find physical copies because so many people only have them digitally. The used game market is already ruined for modern consoles, and I’m not paying full price to rent a game.

I don’t support that user-hostile model. I’ll just pirate all that shit on pc.

Same. If my pihole breaks the internet because of this, welp. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah, most instances are SFW content only, so the porn is mostly on a few specific instances which may or may not be federated with yours. I’ve come across 3 different instances with communities I need to block for being porn : / even with nsfw hidden on mine I still see the blurred posts and that’s not really much better.. especially having to go into the community to block it..

I’d like to block the whole instances, especially after coming across a post asking where non-consensual stuff can be posted…
