This video, start it at 1:16:00. It happens around 1:16:25, right about when he says “tremendous”, but the context is fun.

Speaking from experience, it functionally ruined them, at least the early macs -exact os/model unknown- we had (school computers well behind the curve and all). They’d need to be reformatted after. It would delete, then iirc just crash and you’d reboot into errors (my memory of this is spotty, it was a very long time ago)

I used to do that in the computer lab when I was supposed to be doing typing practice. Fucking hate typing “properly”.

Note: I am not a verifiable source, this is anecdata.

Yep, basically their strategy is intimidation by being rich when the people deving these things aren’t. The legal costs are nothing for them and decimating for their opponents.

Shameful practice, but super common in the modern world.

I never felt weird posting to Reddit that I was a woman, and never got any weird dms or anything.. no clue why, just luck I suppose. Or could have to do with where/how I shared that info.. either way I was openly asexually female for the entire 5 years I had an actual account. Worst that happened was a bit of banter with a user about whether or not boobs float (something I honestly don’t know); they told me to go check and report back and I said their man boobs would be more likely than mine to float since I’m thin and not well endowed.

But I’ve been more vocal about it here because Lemmy is an absolute sausage party, and it’s so so so so obvious. It hasn’t been weird here at all either, but there also aren’t a lot of conversations in which I feel it necessary to divulge (probably because it’s a sausage party, so those sorts of conversations don’t happen as much)

I wasn’t using that as a treat myself excuse, but I’m shopping for a fancy new bed frame (with headboard storage, power strip, lights, and drawers underneath to keep my cats out) and it was gunna be a birthday gift to myself, but now it’s a women’s day/birthday gift 🤭

Significant racist bias is an understatement.

I asked a generator to make me a “queen monkey in a purple gown sitting on a throne” and I got maybe two pictures of actual monkeys. I even tried rewording it several times to be a real monkey, described the hair and everything.

The rest were all women of color.

Very disturbing. Pretty ladies, but very racist.

6 months savings is still at risk tho.

If you don’t find a new job within 6 months, then what?

I have literally 3 years worth of minimum living savings, but that isn’t actually a lot of money and I only have it because I live well below my means because I’ve spent my whole life in poverty.

I’m not owner class even tho I can go 3 years without working. Because eventually I do need more income to survive. Owners don’t. They can use passive income and never ever have to work again. That’s the difference.

Have you ever had pancakes or waffles made with almond or coconut flour? Holy shit they are so good, that extra bit of flavor? Changes everything. They do tend to be a bit heavier, but I’d argue that’s great for something like pancakes.

For bonus points, use pandan extract for flavoring instead of vanilla. It’ll turn them green, and it’s delicious. Goes well with the non-wheat flours.

(I don’t have any reason to avoid wheat flour, but I do have access to inexpensive non-wheat flours so I like to play around)

Me too. Those things are impossible to steer with any precision.

Also the actual project..

As a woman with that level of enthusiasm about niche science info (I got a degree as a science communicator, because I literally can’t help myself sharing interesting info when it seems a good time to do so)..

It’s very very difficult to find people who aren’t intimidated by it, or put off by the enthusiasm about something they don’t begin to understand/care about. Of all the people I talk to randomly, maybe 1 out of 30 people actually likes the enthusiasm past the first 5 min. And even that 5 min can be a stretch. That is to say, they tolerate it, they don’t tend to engage with it or encourage it. Mostly you get “oh, that’s neat”. Which is a great way to shut the entire conversation down, cuz where do you go from there?

I tend to agree that enthusiasm is interpersonally attractive, it’s why I make small talk by asking what thing the other person finds interesting that they learned recently. (Not something they think I want to know, something they are interested in). I don’t think the majority of the population views it that way, though. They only think enthusiasm is good if it’s a subject they already care about in some way. And they don’t want to share theirs in case it’s not something you are interested in, even if all you actually are interested in is whatever sparks their passion.

I guess it could be my area, but I’ve been a lot of places (mostly within the same country ofc) and found about the same whether rural or urban, north or south. Also I don’t think my observation is because I’m a woman, but it could be a contributing factor, idk.

Well yeah, if the employer expects 100% at all times, they are going to have a bad time. That leads to burnout and turnover. No human can work at 100% for the hours required without significant downtime.

If instead they set a reasonable metric of productivity, and used that as a baseline (not their line-driven bullshit https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AnHiAWlrYQc) they will probably do better.

Wasn’t bail only set at 200k? So like a token gesture, really.

Normal people don’t get that much leniency.. I’d be surprised if we get a mugshot, but Godzilla do I want it.

Nixon was apparently warned against trying to pardon himself because no man can be judge over his own case. Clear conflict of interest.

Idk how well that would hold up now as a reasoning, considering…. gestures broadly
