Canada needs to hit back HARD with counter-tariffs. If we cave here, then where will it end??

Trump thinks he can unilaterally pull out of NAFTA (or whatever the modern equivalent is)? OK, we can unilaterally pull out of the water treaties that say we allow our rivers to flow south of the border.

The time has come for Canada to stop exporting any raw resources at all. Water, lumber, cattle, crude, LNG ... keep it and refine/process it and sell finished goods only.

Canadians may have forgotten how quickly the US caved on keeping cattle from being imported to the northern US states for processing when Alberta and Saskatchewan called their bluff near the end of the Mad Cow scare around 2003... Canada had all the paperwork to prove herds were being tested properly for mad cow disease, but the US wanted to leverage the fear to keep Canadian beef out to help their own farmers; so Canada decided to start building more beef processing plants locally. They panicked and re-opened exports fearing we'd become self-sufficient for beef production and stop sending our cattle to them for good, destroying their processing industry.

Hey US.. you are insane. You know how this looks to people who haven't been raised in your culture, right? right?

I don't know much about NPM (having avoided JS as much as possible for my entire life), but golang seems to have a good solution: 'vendoring'. One can choose to lock all external dependencies to local snapshots brought into a project, with no automatic updating, but with the option to manually update them when desired.

Depends, what are the samples used? If it's all sad trombones it might not be so great. Then again ...

So surely there must be an easy way to cut/disconnect whatever antenna(s) are used for OnStar, LTE, Bluetooth etc. in modern cars? I know when I finally am forced to get a car with always-on systems I will be looking for ways to disable them.

Oh, but that will all happen after the rich jerks who caused all this are dead, so it doesn't matter! Why would they do anything to stop it?

EDIT: Plus they already have their apocalypse bunkers lined up so even if it all hits sooner, who cares about the poors right?

I wish more people knew about IPFS -- a content-addressable, persistent filesystem. It's a peer-to-peer system that can offer durable backups to important info. Of course I'm a hypocrite as I realize I haven't been running my IPFS node lately due to upgrades... off I go to fix that.

I admit I want to like his science education efforts, but ... and I mean this in just an objective way and it's only my opinion but ... he just doesn't click for me anywhere close to how Carl Sagan did. Sagan had such a thoughtful, reflective and soothing manner in how he presented science concepts, and his awe and love of all things science (and science history) was infectious. The original Cosmos is capable of making one weep at the beauty of the universe... I only got through the first 2 or 3 of Neil deGrasse Tyson's new series; his style of narration just doesn't work for me. I even have trouble listening to his science podcasts, it's just too much 'sports-talk' like back and forth.

I dunno. I'm grumpy today and need more coffee.
