Ah, my misunderstanding - kernel level anti-cheat is also a bit bizarre tbh, like people really really don't understand the level of control they're handing over to random games companies.

The the damn resin absorbing into your skin and curing the next time you're in direct sunlight. Resin is super detailed, but I can't say I particularly enjoy doing it.

They look dystopian

We should make it a thing. Let's regroup in a fortweek and see how we're getting on.

Not only could they, they did, months ago.

Storage and maintenance. OSes are miniscule in comparison to the data YouTube stores, we're in the multiple exabyte range here. Someone's got to pay for it somewhere. Floatplane might be a decent comparison as to what a FOSS YouTube might look like - they have a dedicated dev team and charge per channel to view, following more than a couple of creators would become cost prohibitive for me personally.

You absolutely need storage in a P2P network, the data doesn't just magic into existence, not only that but if there are insufficient peers in the network then you're not watching the video, smaller creators and older content would likely suffer as a result.

Hurd, surely?

Is this the one they've decided exists and then narrow down the parameters as what it must look like every time a survey rules out another patch of sky?

Objectively speaking it would short circuit a lot of law suits - regardless if he's found guilty or not.

That's the interesting thing about nuclear waste. It's kind of easy to dispose of, you just put it somewhere safe and leave it the fuck alone until it's not nuclear waste any more. The tricky part is the fact is the wait is a few thousand years and you need to find a way to pass the "leave this the fuck alone" message along to the descendents.

I'm normally someone who'll dig into the weeds on something, but for some reason Linux networking just switches my brain off after about 5 minutes. Something engaging or practical here would be a godsend. Network chuck is someone I've tangentially brushed against, but he seems like he could get the concepts across, is there a series of his that will kind of get me going?

Typically "picking up the slack" results in an overall decrease in the quality of work, those that are "picking up the slack" are now doing the bare minimum to keep the team functional and probably working extra hours for the same pay. Most likely overall output decreases as well.
