Bezos might expect Trump to win and wants to avoid retaliatory actions from Trump if he does.

He knows Harris won't hate him for the lack of an endorsement, or at least won't vindictively come after him. Trump is... less mature.

The actual paper is an interesting read. They present an actual computational proof, stating that even if you have essentially infinite memory, a computer that's a billion times faster than what we have now, perfect training data that you can sample without bias and you're only aiming for an AGI that performs slightly better than chance, it's still completely infeasible to do within the next few millenia. Ergo, it's definitely not "right around the corner". We're lightyears off still.

They prove this by proving that if you could train an AI in a tractable amount of time, you would have proven P=NP. And thus, training an AI is NP-hard. Given the minimum data that needs to be learned to be better than chance, this results in a ridiculously long training time well beyond the realm of what's even remotely feasible. And that's provided you don't even have to deal with all the constraints that exist in the real world.

We perhaps need some breakthrough in quantum computing in order to get closer. That is not to say that AI won't improve or anything, it'll get a bit better. But there is a computationally proven ceiling here, and breaking through that is exceptionally hard.

It also raises (imo) the question of whether or not we can truly consider humans to have general intelligence or not. Perhaps we're not as smart as we think we are either.

I actually think this form factor makes more sense than a two-fold. With two-folds you get this weird not-quite-square aspect ratio, but this gives you something much closer to a very typical 16:9. Perfect for watching movies or streaming games.

I do want a proper android device though, which Huawei can't provide anymore unfortunately. But I hope other manufacturers try their hand at this form factor. Still, massive props to Huawei on the design and engineering feat, it's genuinely the first phone I've seen in years that made me reconsider what I want in a phone.

And no, obviously a tri-fold isn't necessary, but neither are smartphones in general. Took me years to decide to purchase one and I was fine without one (started with a year-old Samsung S7, for reference).

You jest, but we all know the damage you could do with a 5oz bottle of shampoo is incalculable.

I actually remember this one being much longer. IIRC, dad starts yelling that he "won't be threatened in his own house", anon gets confused and tries to explain, mom starts yelling, he leaves the house, gf gets mad at him for even having the gun, asking how long he's been carrying it with him.

Yup, they shut it off for a couple of hours during exams so students won't cheat.

Or at least, won't cheat using the internet.

The point is that people tend to claim the opposite, that an infinite amount of universes means everything and anything is happening in some universe somewhere. Which can't be true, as a universe where someone creates some device that destroys all universes does not exist (as proven by our own existence).

Therefore it follows that there must be some constraints, though what those constraints actually are is obviously a very difficult problem.

The "infinite fractions between 1 and 2 which are not 3" is an example that shows that infinite =/= everything.

The bullwhip effect refers to perceived demand, not actual demand. And if perceived demand is larger, suppliers would act to increase supply, which suppresses inflation, not causes it.

Instead we saw supply shortages well before any stimulus checks were passed, and we saw further supply shortages after demand for oil for example absolutely cratered. The impact of this on various supply chains is still being felt everywhere.

It's also dead-simple to prove that demand hasn't suddenly spiked due to stimulus checks, because if you look at a graph of US household savings, you'll notice those jump up at a couple points, and those jumps happen to be roughly equal to the size of the total stimulus package. Which very strongly suggests Americans used the stimulus checks to pay off built up debts and to put the rest into savings. These graphs are available online, feel free to Google it.

Furthermore, inflation was at its peak well after the stimulus checks had ended. This was due to a normalization of demand to pre-covid levels, whereas supply still needs time to go to those levels.
