We can’t be far from the first wave of uniquely targeted scam ads with faked photos/audio/video of the user’s friends, family, boss, etc.

My mother-in-law sent thousands of dollars for years to a fake UN official.

Here’s my new business model:

Meet Blokke - a beautifully bias-cut rectangle of exquisitely opaque cloth that exactly matches the dimensions of the Telly sub-screen.

I’m not up my own ass enough to proudly declare myself “naturally adventurous,” but I have stayed at a few Holiday Inn Expresses in other towns before. I use Debian and Ubuntu somewhat regularly, but mostly use Windows and MacOS in daily life, and I don’t understand where the “sinking ship” metaphor comes in. Microsoft will attempt this recurring-revenue monetization, and it will either be successful, or it won’t; Windows won’t go away if it isn’t. Otherwise, Apple prints money from its beautifully made consumer-friendly hardware, which also features shockingly good in-house silicon.

No ships are sinking. This isn’t some grand narrative where Linux awaits us all at the end of personal-computing history.

Ufa, you got keelhauled for saying something reasonable.

I’m so poisoned, I thought it was videogame review.

For all of my suckerdom, the one Apple thing I don’t buy is headphones. Between the pre-sale engineered obsolescence and the post-sale engineered obsolescence (looking at you, AirPods and your declining noise-canceling levels after software “updates” as a new model is about to launch), I managed to achieve escape velocity to other headphone brands. Love the Sony WF-1000XM series for noise-canceling earbuds.

There was also hippie-flipping: mushrooms and E.

LSD & E/molly at same time

Except for the lighter fluid, this is not a crazy menu for kids in late ‘70s or ravers in mid-‘90s.

This was a really interesting suggestion, thank you!

I’m a hacky home hoster, who doesn’t work with linux professionally and has zero sysadmin background, so I have almost no credibility here, but . . .

For a decade, I hosted on Kodi on a pi 3, then I tried Plex on Pi 4 with sinks and fan cooling. It just wasn’t good for modern hi-def files, particularly h.265. I personally wouldn’t use a Pi for Plex today, unless the files were h.264 and limited to 720p, maybe 1080p.

A couple of years ago, I gave up and bought an Nvidia Shield Pro that was on sale. Plex on it has been pretty great, but it’s now getting long in the tooth, particularly as 4K files are increasingly available.

No idea where to go from here. I’d like something that is very low-power, like an SBC. Maybe a Mixtile Blade 3 or similar.
