Not GTA, not Star Citizen, not any game with actual gameplay, story, or anything like that.

Just a freaking Niantic reskin for freaking Monopoly.

I live in the wrong timeline.

Also that only 1/3 of the water flows over the falls. The rest is diverted off to make electricity.

Thanks to @barneypiccolo@lemm.ee for the following summary and turning me on to the linked excellent summary of the book.

Foundations of Geopolitics was published in 1997 by Aleksandr Dugin. It outlines how Russia can become the world's dominant superpower without warfare. It is taught in Russia's military officers school, Putin keeps a copy in his office, and it is Russia's geopolitical playbook. Dugin is still closely involved with Putin and Russian intelligence, and so was his daughter, who was murdered in a car bombing that was likely meant for him.

Under the section for the United States, it says:

Russia should use its special services within the borders of the United States and Canada to fuel instability and separatism against neoliberal globalist Western hegemony, such as, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists" to create severe backlash against the rotten political state of affairs in the current present-day system of the United States and Canada. Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social, and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics".

I lived just around the corner when Cyberia, definitely the UK's and possibly the world's first ever internet café, opened in 1994. (Naturally, a couple other places have since put in claims they opened first.)

Reading an article today about the founding of Cyberia, I saw this:

And then there was the Amish community in Pennsylvania. Eva had to fly out there to negotiate for the “Cyberia.com” domain name they had bought. “It was a proper barn with horse carts and a wall of modems as they were running a bulletin board and an early ecommerce company. Apparently, there was always one family nominated to be the tech support,” she remembers.

From the article: Some fucker bought 40k CSAM images with PayPal and when the authorities compared the hash of those images with the database they found out 285 known victims in 1500 images

The victims can file restitution charges

I hope the process is almost automated and the victims don't have to relive the abuse with each trial (only 19 known victims applied in this case which makes me think it might be a painful process to apply...)

Original Title: TIL in the 1980s, a woman bought a ring at a car boot sale for £10 & proceeded to wear it regularly under the assumption it was a piece of costume jewelry. However when she had it appraised decades later, it was identified as a real 26-carat diamond ring from the 1800s, which she then sold for £656K

Bantle recognized bear No. 122, otherwise known as The Boss, due to his size and his distinctive ears. The Boss is regarded as being the most dominant grizzly bear found around Banff National Park.

Weighing in at somewhere between 650 and 700 pounds (295-317 kg), the bear's resumé of dominance is legendary. He is considered to have a home range more than 2,500 square kilometres. He's eaten a black bear. He even once brushed off being struck by a train but still uses the railways for travel and foraging.

Adenosine is a waste product of neurons and it is a potent nervous system depressant which is why if we don't sleep for a long time we hallucinate, start to feel cold, and feel tired. We feel like we're drugged because we kind of are. It also increases sleep pressure. Unlike other areas of the body the brain has no way of flushing out the adenosine unless we sleep which activates the glymphatic system. if we don't sleep the adenosine keeps accumulating and it can kill us in a similar way an od of sleeping pills can.

Erica Chenoweth initially thought that only violent protests were effective. However after analyzing 323 movements the results were opposite of what Erica thought:

For the next two years, Chenoweth and Stephan collected data on all violent and nonviolent campaigns from 1900 to 2006 that resulted in the overthrow of a government or in territorial liberation. They created a data set of 323 mass actions. Chenoweth analyzed nearly 160 variables related to success criteria, participant categories, state capacity, and more. The results turned her earlier paradigm on its head — in the aggregate, nonviolent civil resistance was far more effective in producing change.

If campaigns allow their repression to throw the movement into total disarray or they use it as a pretext to militarize their campaign, then they’re essentially co-signing what the regime wants — for the resisters to play on its own playing field. And they’re probably going to get totally crushed.
