  • Brush: TGS Galaxy 26 mm
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: Derby Premium half DE
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber
  • Post-Shave: Zingari Man - The Master, recovery splash; moisturiser
  • Passes & Info: single pass WTG head shave. Comfortable, not very close though.

I did this shave way earlier today before my late shift. Yes, I worked yet another weekend. And it was awful!

This combo is really good, but I only did WTG to avoid any cuts or anything else. It wasn't a very close shave, more akin to using a dry shaver. Still nice to finally get to a shave again. Tomorrow will be yet another quick shave, as there's an event by my welfare organisation to welcome the new trainees for this year and honour those who passed their exams this year (like me) and the practice instructors/mentors. I finally got my final results and the exam in the mail on Friday btw, couldn't be happier. Tomorrow should be a nice closing point and a chance for some networking. I don't like that I'll be going completely alone, but I don't plan on staying too long anyway...

Hope everyone else had a great Sunday!

Thanks! The Master is indeed amazing, truly one of Shawn Maher's greatest creations. It's not overly sweet or powdery like some other barbershops tend to be.

Ace is probably right at home in the coming fall/autumn season ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
The sides of the Flatboy are indeed round, you can't rest it on the side like other razors. Thankfully the handle is flat and heavy enough to stand on its own! The plus is that the blade tabs are fully covered. It's basically the Razorine on a stick, a bit aggressive but manageable if you take it slow ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Brush: TGS Galaxy 26 mm
  • Razor: Razorine Flatboy 73, all brass
  • Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
  • Lather: Southern Witchcrafts - GraveFruit II soap
  • Post-Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - GraveFruit II AS toner
  • Passes & Info: 2 pass head shave with a new razor - nice audio feedback, generally very comfortable and efficient, but caught a few weepers.

Today I fetched my parcel/mail call and among the goods was this shiny full brass razor from Italy. A pic of all the goods will be coming tomorrow, not much energy left today after an exhausting shift.

Once upon a time I had a full brass Razorine, probably one of the most famous/infamous (?) DE-vettes to exist. I liked the look, but it always cut me badly, so I PIFed it to djundjila a few years ago. I still have a thing for brass razors without a chrome/silver coating though, and the choice for my reward razor was between this and the TGS Bayonetta. The Flatboy won basically on price point and higher total weight, despite the way less cooler name. I did this shave with a base I am very familiar with, SW is actually a top notch and very slick vegan soap - so it's very sad that they ceased operations. GF2 is a nice dark citrus blend created by Shawn Maher. It's perhaps the only trifecta I own together with Pomona (which is even more rare, as it was already discontinued before SW folded).

Anyways, my first impressions of the new razor are:

  • This is really the most flat DE head I ever came across and the audio feedback is similar to GEMs (= crispy ๐Ÿ˜)
  • The blade tabs are nicely covered, but you need to pay attention to proper blade alignment in the razor head
  • It is very, very efficient and also very intolerant of small bumps - learning this caused a few weepers
  • riding the cap is the preferable option for this one compared to riding the safety bar, perhaps it also does better with milder blades instead of the BICs
  • the hefty weight and thick handle feel great in my larger hands, however since it is handle-heavy, I need to pay attention to not put too much pressure on the head to avoid irritation and cuts.

So far, so good. I'm sure once I master this razor, it'll be a great tool in my collection. Happy to have one day off tomorrow!

Definitely, even though it's hard I try to help as much as I can. We're mostly RNs left, most assistant nurses are either on sick leave or vacation ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: Derby Premium (half DE)
  • Lather: Zingari Man - The Rambler
  • Post-Shave: OAM - oli del benessere sensitive skin toner
  • Passes & Info: a single pass on the head and on the neck, a really smooth solid shave.

A night shave before my first shift as a RN tomorrow. Kinda nervous, kinda excited.

Rambler's sweet scent is kinda intoxicating, normally I'm not too keen on sweet things but this one is really fascinating. Had worked up a really good lather today, so it was quite enjoyable to shave today.

Have a good start into the new week!

I haven't until now. After 3 different songs, it feels pretty smooth IMHO. A bit of prog rock, a bit ambient, some britpop influence (mostly in the vocals). Thanks for the suggestion! It sounds a bit like artists I'd find on Digitalis by soma.fm (I don't know if you're familiar with their different online radio stations). Maybe you'd like something like this here too?: HTRK - Gilbert and George Most of my other ambient consumption is from the darker side of things and soundtracks.

The problem is that I downloaded a Linux distro on the stick but it says that it can't be opened. Judging by the files, I don't know where/how to run them from. It seems like I need something else on the USB stick to compile & run the files in the right order, I guess? I've unfortunately done my research pretty superficially, I admit ๐Ÿ˜…

I'm currently in the final phase of preparation for the last part of my exam: the oral exam. TBH, it's 60% knowledge and 40% luck of the draw: if I draw an envelope with topics that I'm well-versed in, I'm sure I can pass it with flying colours. It's next Tuesday and currently I just want it to be over, I'm so tired of studying. I want to convert my school laptop into something for personal use, in case anyone is familiar with running Linux from an USB drive hmu - I have a few interesting distros installed but I can't seem to get it running.

However, since a peculiar bout of melancholy overcame me as I suddenly realized that after 3 years of constantly preparing for new things and always preparing for something different will end, I got myself an online piano/keyboard course today. Of course I won't ever be a classical pianist, but since this course seems to focus more on playing contemporary music instead of reading sheet music and complex arrangements, I should be alright. My end goal is to be able to play some ambient music that sounds more interesting and unique than the awful AI ambient music circulating YT and streaming services. I also have taken up listening to Ambient while I shave now: it helps me to be more "in the moment", so to speak. It's difficult to explain and maybe it's an ADHD thing. Relaxing Ambient and Drone can help me to be calmer, Dark Ambient generally helps me to stay alert and keep my focus, Experimental stuff helps me to try out new things. I often think about certain situations and events and definitely connect some kind of music or melody to it. Perhaps that's strange, but that's how my brain works.

I can also happily report that I successfully got back into reading as a hobby thanks to the tip of a YouTuber: he recommended reading before sleeping and starting with short stories or shorter books. I have read "The Stranger" by Albert Camus this month, and even though this wasn't the most motivating literature, I like how I could finish an entire book just by nighttime reading sessions.

  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Razor: Stando Perun
  • Blade: Personna Super DE
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber
  • Post-Shave: Lavera - Men sensitive ASB
  • Passes & Info: 2 passes on the head this time. Nice, quick and uneventful shave.

Today it was due time for a good head shave, but I only got to it shortly before Midnight (local time). I had a lot of stubble to cut down, but the Perun did it with ease. Maybe this blade is a good fit for it, unfortunately I just have ~4 of them left.

Chiseled Face's and Stirling's soap bases are kinda my "Ol' Reliable", i.e.: Nothing too fancy with tons of exotic butters and oils, but good ingredients to whip up a nice lather fast and have just enough slickness for your shave. It also helps that GTB is such a interesting & spicy take on the faux genre of barbershop scents that it's quite pleasant to use.

Pretty niche but nice nonetheless ๐Ÿ˜‰ The "missing link" sounds very likely. Most Lemmy clients I had except Raccoon don't show the SOTD thumbnail, but it does add some context IMHO.

Hello from PieFed too!

Unfortunately Voyager for Android isn't the same as for iOS. The Android version doesn't support sign-in via PieFed yet. ~~I currently try an app called Blorp.~~ I am actually on the more feature-rich Summit now! Still getting used to it, just leaving this here for other mobile users with an Android OS!
