it would be okay if some other country took up the task... yes the US SHOULD be leading climate science but since that is out of the question for the foreseeable future (a small window indeed in this collapsing empire) maybe China or the EU would be interested in a livable future as well, 's'all i'm saying. they probably have their own versions already in fact. The States are cooked, and the world is going to have to pick up the slack.

Home assistant is great for home automation stuff like lights and cameras and AC and such but for controlling your water system you might want something less complex / more purpose-designed. There are many arduino-based projects for doing exactly what you're looking for - https://arduinogetstarted.com/tutorials/arduino-automatic-irrigation-system or https://www.instructables.com/Automatic-Plant-Watering-System-Using-Soil-Moistur/ are two i just looked up real quick. I'm sure it would be possible with assistant as well though if you just wanted to centralize.

Except that when companies can't make money they adapt by buying politicians to mandate use of their dirty product and outlawing alternatives. Voting with your wallet only goes so far, whereas taking out one CEO has managed to affect the behavior of an entire class. Imagine if they were hunted at the rate of american schoolkids.

There's also a very uncool colonial system involved where many small growers are not allowed to sell or export thier coffee crop without jumping through exploitative regulatory hoops that increase the cost at every step. Not to discount the climate impact on the crops. The added cost comes down to greed in both cases - the ones taking advantage of farmers developing countries and marking up the product more and more and the greed of people profitmaxxing regardless of causing and making the climate crisis worse.

The idea of the family is so pernicious when it is used to justify abuse and avoiding responsibility and consequences of bad behavior. Cutting people off when they're consistently being harmful assholes shouldn't be contigent upon blood relation or any other kind of personal or group association and all the people selling "family is forever" or "traditional family values" are doing it because they themselves are the abusive asshole that doesn't want to be cut out

I would think the Muslim world would be getting more interested in climate discussions with temps during Hajj being lethal (1200 deaths this year alone)
