I started with C++ too, and then ended up finding a job writing firmware pretty much all in C. There really hasn’t been anything we’ve run into that’s made us consider switching to C++; being able to (and needing to) have complete control over your memory means you can do some pretty fancy stuff with the tiny amounts of memory on our ASICs.

We’ve been eyeballing switching to rust a little bit, but really only for other applications; the root of our main code base is over 25 years old at this point and a rewrite would take a Herculean effort.

It would certainly be interesting. But instead, they keep targeting lesser-privileged people and leaking all of their data, ruining lives, etc.

I sold the SUV a few months later, lol. I drive a hatch now.

Also worth noting though that the main reason race cars are able to get more grip with slick tires is because the tires are made to have a very low melting (?) point. So they heat up very quickly and also don’t last very long as a result. But that heating up allows them to literally stick to the ground. Normal car tires ain’t doing that for sure.

I mean, if you’ve already got an Unraid server, why not just throw together a network drive and just mount that in whatever distro you’re using at the moment?

Nobody knew. Not even the security guards, lol. Best guess was that it just prevented kids going to screw with classes that were still in session after they were done eating.
