New Zealand would be a fun place to relocate. While it does suck they're part of the 5 eyes as their government loves snuggling up to the US, the life outlook of the citizens is admirable. The money someone has or doesn't have isn't a consideration regarding how someone is viewed. A millionaire and a home-free individual are seen similarly when first met thanks to this mindset. Both mountain towns and island towns have a laid back approach to each day, which would be a nice change of pace. New Zealand is also both, as it's an island with a couple huge mountains. Snowboarding and surfing are a ton of fun, especially when the travel time is minimal. So ya, New Zealand would be a solid choice in my book!!

As someone who works in academia and has researched STEM education, wanting to do this is despicable! You have a quarter million dollars saved, yet you want money intended for low-income students. Like, what the actual hell?! I hope you attempt this and get caught, ideally they'll then fine you $250K and ensure you're unable to ever receive any financial aid. Screw you and you're comfortably committing fraud which will impact those who actually need the funding!

Most voters don’t vote for—often don’t even consider voting for—third parties because they view voting for a third party as helping the establishment party they most hate. Disenchanted Democrats continue to vote for Democrats because they don’t want Republicans; disenchanted Republicans continue to vote for Republicans because they don’t want Democrats. Both are trapped by fear and loathing.

Disenchanted Republicans should dialogue and pair up with disenchanted Democrats and both vote for third party or independent candidates. That is, instead of you and a friend canceling out each other’s votes, one self-loathingly voting for Harris and the other for Trump, you vote for the third-party candidates you actually want. You both get to vote your preference without helping the candidate you most dislike.

VotePact frees up votes in pairs from each of the establishment parties. This liberates the voters to push the lever for their actual preference from among those on the ballot, rather than just pick the “least bad” of the two majors. It doesn’t change the balance between the establishment parties, but “syphons off” votes from them equally. The pair could each vote for different candidates, or they could vote for the same candidate. If the latter, it could open the path to an actual electoral victory for an enterprising independent candidate.

We’re trying to free people from the fear of voting for candidates that actually represent their beliefs. Over the years, real independents, principled progressives, libertarians, authentic conservatives, and others have been unrelentingly manipulated by the establishments of the two major parties. They should wake up to the fact that they can join together, rather than be kept apart by establishment party apparatchiks who exploit their fear to maintain the ruling duopoly. It can lead to an independent or emerging party candidate winning.

Are you implying Mozilla paid AccuWeather to have placement on it's browser? It's always the other way around, think about Google paying to be the default search engine on Safari. If anything, I have to think Mozilla was paid to incorporate AccuWeather and not the other way around.

Yep! Insects can use their legs, mouthparts, as well as other specialized structures for grooming. In addition, some beetles actually use water to wash off dirt and contaminants. Other insects make and secret substances for cleaning. A common example of this is ants using formic acid as a disinfectant. Then, similar to monkeys, bugs like bees and ants conduct social grooming. This helps with the colonies overall health.

Sounds like you're looking for independent journalism, I'm in the same boat. I've found checking commondreams.org, scheerpost.com, therealnews.com, unicornriot.ninja, fair.org, thecanary.co, leftvoice.org, consortiumnews.com, labornotes.org, and popularresistance.org/news make for a great news feed. Those are an array of independent news outlets which keep it almost entirely just news. Setting up an RSS feed with these sites would be a solid move to ensure your getting news with none of the BS.

So, based on your sources, the first one states "'connected consciousness’ occurs when people under general anaesthetic are able to respond to outside stimuli such as pain but may not be able to recall the event afterwards." This occurred with 1 out of 10 patients in their study. But responding to the environment is much different than consciousness under anesthesia.

The second source was pay walled, but in the third from the BBC, it states "the unfortunate result is that a small proportion of people may lie awake for part or all of their surgery without any ability to signal their distress." It's important to remember it's only a "small proportion" of folks!

I've unfortunately had more than 10 surgical procedures and I'm also a major odd ball when it comes to treatments for my autoimmune disorders. But I've never once had any issues with anethesia, aside from specific drugs making me irritable when coming too. You'll almost certainly be fine. I found this research paper that's super specific to your question: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2743249/

It covers how somewhere between 0.05% and 0.1% of patients undergoing anesthesia are aware of the operation during the procedure. While this is a truly minor proportion, it isn't 0%, and this is one reason why surgery is a last resort. Regardless, the numbers are on your side and do your best not to manifest this into taking place during your operation!

Exactly, more than half of registered voters are over 50. So polling 50+ year olds would definitely be better data.

Stallman's attempt to rename Linux to incorporate the GNU name not happening was frustrating on his end it seems. Everytime someone calls their system a Linux based OS and not GNU/Linux based OS downplays the work he put in. However, Linus's kernel was more elaborate than GNU Hurd, so it was incorporated. It's said Stallman is a visionary, while Linus is a programist. While there's never been any display of tension in a back and forth between them online, it's always seemed to me they appreciate and also despise various aspects of each another.
