May they continue to be forced to play hopscotch with their home.

Honestly? Same. Although supposedly Google added the ability recently to share them to other devices, the fact you couldn't easily (if at all - I didn't bother researching that much) do so before rang some alarm bells for me. Considering how dependent upon Google's known capriciousness using them would make me, I've also declined to use them thus far. That's why I made fun of them with the "kewl keeds" comment.

Thx for the explainer - I have some research to do.

I'm not sure what that last part means, but TY.

I don't ever want to have to set up my PC again. Will Tumbleweed be good to accomplish this for a user used to Windows?

Speaking from experience? How'd it go?

Not in my experience, but again that was quite some time ago - I think it was Android 6 the last time I did it.

ETA: although now that I think about it, it was technically done in an "unsafe" manner by exploiting vulnerabilities. For the more safety-concerned, maybe a wipe was preferred.

That's how the big bucks are made.

The article implies simply rooting will do - something I haven't done in quite a while, but last I knew didn't involve wiping your existing setup.

And I'd do it again!

Meh, that's nothing - just look at the multitude of directories forced upon any storage device you plug into something running Android.
