I think it’s more accurate to think of you trapping humans in your basement and leaving them a bag of groceries every once in a while. Then you go down there and take whatever they cooked with the produce. They get to eat what they make, you just get the leftovers. They also can’t leave.

I think they serve an important ecological function of pushing down marsh grass to better the flow of water. Or something like that.

Incredible. I’m learning a ton and gaining a huge appreciation of it all thanks to everyone’s comments in this post.

Are you saying you perform zero mental calculus to determine these sorts of things? You do not consider laws, social norms, or even morals? Where do you draw the line? If there is a literal community fruit tree at a park near your house, would you take all the fruits until people ask you to leave some for them? If you are driving home and you see a house with a beautiful garden, would you stop and steal some of the plants because the resident should tell you not to? Would you practice your guitar at 3am with an amp because, who knows, maybe your neighbors actually enjoy it or maybe they sleep with earplugs and since you had a great musical idea at 3am, you should "be bold" and "take what's yours" and they should tell you 3am is a stupid time to play guitar with an amp?

Did you also say you live in a homogeneous community of somewhat assholes and you think you're being bold by also being an asshole?

I invested in my sleep this year. Bought a white noise machine, comfy percal cotton sheets, ear plugs, eye mask, mouth tape, try to go running consistently, implemented basic sleep hygiene stuff like no phone in the room, and… I still have trouble. I went on a 50km bike ride over the weekend and still had trouble. But… the reality is that it has gotten better on average after implementing all of this and fuck it, I’ll take it.

I drink a cup of coffee only once a day. It’s extra strong though. Maybe that has something to do with it. But I really love that one strong ass coffee in the morning.

In Brazil, during the 2018 election, Bolsonaro’s team got advice from Steve Bannon. Bolsonaro was stabbed during his campaign which many say hugely bolstered his numbers.

Now this? I know Bannon is in prison but the whole Cambridge Analytica thing and the manipulation of public & individual opinion… the connections with Roger Stone… the whole QAnon crap… project 2025… it’s just all so fucking weird.

Such a warmonger response.

A “friend” started a company and hired me. It was pretty fun for a year. Then it became pretty bad — real bad. I quit on the spot after a verbal abuse session where I demanded more respect and my “friend” / boss literally said “no.”

It’s been a little over a year since I quit. Lived in my car for some of it, otherwise took odd jobs here and there where I could rent a room temporarily.

I’m at the end of this insane journey — starting a new job in a couple months. It’s been rough but I still think it was the right decision. Curious to see myself in 6 months to a year.

Anyway, felt like this was somewhat similar to your case.
