Is that why they’re cracking down on ad blockers so hard? So they can keep paying for wasted time?

What a word salad. Your comment can be applied to anything because people are different lol. All my friends who are dads have different ideas on how to be a dad. Fascinating. It helps to understand the goal of a parent. All my friends with jobs define success in different ways. It’s like they’re all making it up as they go along. Fascinating. It helps to understand the goals of a worker.

It’s ok to set “impossible” goals if you view them as directions rather than destinations.

Fascinating huh?

I've seen them live! It was fucking incredible. I'm only sort of into metal but I love this kind of music. Admittedly, I don't follow them much, listen to them often, or know a lot about their discography. But... been listening to ØØ Void for the past 20 minutes. So good, thanks.

It’s funny to think of life as a board game or a role playing game being played on the “astral plane” or whatever by our “higher selves.” Car problems etc are just really unfortunate dice rolls.

Conversations about Morrowind: “aww you’re sweet”

Conversations about any other game: “hello, human resources?!?”

I also feel like it’s aggressively trying to not come across as a bot. It’s got a really intense whimsical energy that’s kinda creepy and… not human lol

In Brazil, during the 2018 election, Bolsonaro’s team got advice from Steve Bannon. Bolsonaro was stabbed during his campaign which many say hugely bolstered his numbers.

Now this? I know Bannon is in prison but the whole Cambridge Analytica thing and the manipulation of public & individual opinion… the connections with Roger Stone… the whole QAnon crap… project 2025… it’s just all so fucking weird.

I feel like the below is one of the greatest lessons I have ever learned. Actually, I’m still fully learning it. Seems so simple but, to me at least, it’s been evasive.

Translated from Portuguese from the song “A Vida É Um Desafio” by Racionais MCs:

Tomorrow is an illusion
Because it doesn’t exist yet
The “today” is real
It’s the reality you can interfere with
The opportunities for change
Are in the present
Don’t wait for the future to change your life
Because the future will be a consequence of the present

Original:

O amanhã é ilusório
Porque ainda não existe
O hoje é real
É a realidade que você pode interferir
As oportunidades de mudança
'Tá no presente
Não espere o futuro mudar sua vida
Porque o futuro será a consequência do presente

My friend was a pretty accomplished academic. Nothing like a mad genius or anything, but pretty excellent and capable. Wasn’t down with the rat-racey pressure to publish and oversell ideas. Left it all to go live in a small farm town. Last time we talked he seemed happy but it wasn’t the easy and smooth path of academia -> farm town, it was actually academia -> enormous existential crisis -> farm town.
