No, it was most definitely Linus's take. Louis Rossman covered this a couple of years ago. Direct Linus quote from that Twitter thread:

Ad blocking is the exact same thing as piracy. Literally the exact same thing.

Linus himself covers those Twitter comments, and defends them further, in this video.

Ten ASIC staff, of varying levels of seniority, were also given the same task with similar prompts.

This is the key line here. These are likely university educated staff with significant experience in writing and summarising information and they were specifically tasked with this. However, within the social media landscape (Lemmy, reddit, etc) AI is already better at summarising information than humans because most human social media users are fucking retarded and spend their time either a) not reading properly/at all or b) cherrypicking information to fit whatever flavour of impassioned narrative they are trying to sell to everyone else.

Just some very recent examples I've seen of Lemmy users proving they are completely incapable of parsing relevant information are that article about an alternative, universal and non-proprietary database called GetGee which everyone seemed to think was an article about whether TikTok should be banned (because the word TikTok was in the title and that tricked their monkey brains) or the update to the 404 Media story on "active listening" in which people responded as if this technology exists and is in use when 404 Media still haven't been able to confirm either of these things. The second one was particularly egregious because it got picked up by all kinds of tech-related YouTube channels and news sites and regurgitated by their viewers and readers without a single one of these people ever bothering to read the source material properly.

I don’t see it listed as supported by lineage OS. That tells me the bootloader isn’t open.

It released one month ago. Even if the bootloader were unlockable, it wouldn't be officially supported by LineageOS yet. Someone actually needs to buy the phone, build for it and then maintain that build. For a popular custom ROM series like the Pixels or something, sure they will be supported very quickly, but other models often take quite a bit longer to be supported. Most people who buy this phone will not be buying it to immediately install LineageOS.

The F(elon) Musk interview.

I guess most won't bother to read the full post and will instead react negatively to the title. Having read the entire thing I am fine with it and would be happy to see more direct competition for the Play Store. The ad thing is only a problem if the store doesn't include a filter to easily hide ad-supported apps.

I recently reset a laptop with Windows 11 on it, prior to installing Linux, and went through the setup process again. It is so bad now, the offline account option was completely missing and it was constantly trying to push Microsoft services on me. It felt very reminiscent of how freeware installations often try to trick users into accepting additional third party garbage.

Stremio is pretty easy to setup. You will need to make use of the community add-ons, found here.

Mr Banducci denied the company engaged in food dumping, saying its reject rate is about "1 to 1.5 per cent".

"We reject very little when it comes into our business, that doesn't mean that it's not rejected before it gets to our business if you know what I mean, I think there's an opportunity there," Mr Banducci said.

"I think we already acknowledge that food waste at farm..."

Food waste is happening at the farm because you have extreme standards that your growers are required to meet:

"There are some aesthetic, there's a banana that can be too big.

"A lot of people who eat bananas are children and younger people who don't want something that's around this big," Mr Harker said as he gestured about 30 centimetres with his hands.

"They want something that's reasonable to consume in a sitting as opposed to it contributing to food waste at home by only being able to eat half of it."

These people are so full of shit. This is going to end up like the "wE dOn'T pRiCe GoUgE" claim - you will be exposed eventually.

Some further clarification on the closed source thing from their FAQ:

Why is Magic Earth free? What is the business model?

Magic Earth is free for all our end-users but we also have a paid Magic Earth SDK for business partners. For instance Selectric.de (a supplier for navigation solutions for ambulances and fire trucks), Smarter AI (developing ADAS systems) or Absolute Cycling (using the platform on bicycles). For more info on the SDK, you can check magiclane.com.

Will Magic Earth be Open Source?

No; since it is also used commercially (we have a paid Magic Earth SDK for business partners), we cannot make the code public.

This is quite different to a federal election, where there are so many interesting and new talking points that come out of the results analysis - even if a landslide is predicted beforehand. Tonight it just feels like a immediate confirmation of what we've already known for months, and there is no discussion to be had beyond the same talking points that have been debated ad-nauseam throughout the entire campaign. Without an indication of anything further resulting from this referendum, the whole exercise just feels like a complete dead end.

They don't. I suspect you haven't actually read one of these articles in detail.because it is in no way a recommendation from TorrentFreak. It literally opens with this:

The VPN review business is also flourishing as well. Just do a random search for “best VPN service” or “VPN review” and you’ll see dozens of sites filled with recommendations and preferred picks. Some VPN companies, such as Kape, even own review sites.

At TF we don’t want to make any recommendations. When it comes to privacy and anonymity, an outsider can’t offer any guarantees. Vulnerabilities are always lurking around the corner and even with the most secure VPN, you still have to trust the VPN company with your data.

Instead, we aim to provide an unranked overview of VPN providers, asking them questions we believe are important. Many of these questions relate to privacy and security, and the various companies answer them in their own words.

We hope that this helps users to make an informed choice. However, we stress that users themselves should always make sure that their VPN setup is secure, working correctly, and not leaking. Also, we advise people to properly research the company behind the VPN service.

NordVPN appears first because it is a sponsor, as is clearly stated:

*Note: Private Internet access, ExpressVPN and NordVPN are TorrentFreak sponsors. We reserve the first three spots for them as a courtesy. This article also includes a few affiliate links which help us pay the bills. We never sell positions in our review article or charge providers for a listing.

The same questions are put to every VPN provider on the list. It is unranked - whether they first or last is completely irrelevant.
