Maybe it wasn't about the houses, maybe it was about the class divide that we made along the way.

Not old, it's called being emotionally mature (may depend on how you are processing it).

at least from like the ~~average~~ stereotypical white American guy’s point of view

Warning: Offensive content

Is this guy actually cool in the eyes of the average white American guy's point of view?

Were they ever actually being critical?

Yes, they write satire. They can't be responsible for Poe's Law.

And think about the savings in road rage stress, and time wasted commuting.

Later in the article he mentions that [7] was a study of her mood swings.

about the most trivial things

That's so it gets interpreted as a light ribbing.

It would be mean to say it about something that is actually serious.

Sometimes it's best to wait a while to see if the fad can survive wider culture. Remember:

  • fidget spinners,
  • what does the fox say
  • ice bucket challenge
  • flossing,
  • harlem shake,
  • planking,
  • what colour is the dress?
  • pwned

Neither does anyone else.

Yes, but you don't need lights if there are only bikes. Lights are there to prevent heavy vehicles from colliding. If there are no heavy vehicles, then the lights aren't needed.

That's how the shape of benzene was first theorised.

Here Kekulé spoke of the creation of the theory. He said that he had discovered the ring shape of the benzene molecule after having a reverie or day-dream of a snake biting its own tail (a symbol in ancient cultures known as the ouroboros).

Structural inequality and sexism

Not from what I've seen. I've worked in STEM for over a decade, all of my superiors have been woman. There are many initiatives supporting women in STEM (financially and other wise). The majority of advertised positions in STEM mention having a fair and diverse workforce.

There may still be sexism but it is mocked openly. You know, like in this comic. The very fact that is comic exists and is being upvoted is evidence that the tide has truly changed.

Doors open, come on in.

The article acknowledges this in the conclusion (emphasis mine):

I’m done. There you have it. That’s my opinion about how ____ed the web is. Look, we will never get the web of old back. Let’s be honest, it wasn’t perfect either. The web of today is more accessible, more dynamic and pretty much a cornerstone of our society.

Accessibility wasn't the main topic discussed in the article. It was mostly pointing out that the current web is too centralised.
