Check out Quill18’s preview using the same footage but talking about what it means at every point, having actually played it: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs3acGYgI1-tzagcKgi6fNTFoBRZfOWVE&si=pCH-r1x7w6ho0tPu

A few other YouTubers have done similarly.

Many channels I watch have already been mentioned, but one comes to mind that hasn’t been: if you like Stuff Made Here and NileRed, you’ll love The Thought Emporium. Dude is a mad scientist, for real. His current long term project is trying to make a neural net that can play DOOM… except he means real neurons. Biological neurons grown in his self built lab, sourced from rats.

I’m happy to say that when the video asked the question, “would you take this bet?” before doing any of the math, my intuition instantly said “hell no!” simply on the basis that going heads after tails does not restore you to you previous position, which implies to me that on average you’d keep going downwards. And I was right! …for the correct type of average, the mode. Which is really what I’d be most concerned about anyway.

The strategy at the end is pretty fascinating though. I get that it works, but I don’t have a full grasp of why it works yet. Not in the same level of gut intuition that told me the initial deal was a bad one at any rate.

When did you stop playing?

I homebrew a composite tarrasque with abilities from all editions… and I’ve found that I don’t even need the earth binding aura to bring ranged attackers down. All you need is the reflective carapace, so missed attacks bounce back and hit someone else instead, and maybe give the big T a nice sized jump so it can simply leap up into the air to catch fliers like a dog catching a frisbee.

But even the jump may not be necessary if you remember that tarrasques burrow like bullettes (land sharks), and the party probably needs to, for example, protect a city from being eaten, not just kill it in a field. So they have to come close just to deal with the burrowing.

And don’t forget to give the tarrasque its nigh-immortality back. Bringing it to 0 hp shouldn’t kill it. You need to bring it to 0 and then cast wish.
