Does your network not support UPnP? You shouldn't normally need to port forward in order to seed a torrent, unless your network prevents NAT traversal.

Yup it appears that our entire comment chain got nuked. So it is now confirmed that if you delete the parent, then all children get removed as well.

For any reading this message, the context is that we tested it by me replying to OP's previous comment, then OP responding to me, then I deleted my comment to see if their comment also got deleted.

Well, that doesn't bode well.

This isn't necessarily about the sheer size of population, and has more to do with birth rates, but this Kurzgesagt video also outlines well the need for a higher birth rate.

You can still edit it.

Nah, never liked the feature, wouldn’t appreciate it here.

Would you mind elaborating on why you feel that way?

Side note, external images can be embedded in markdown like this:

Thank you for that info! I'll update my post.

Can’t the admins just edit it and sign with a new key?

Of course, but if the signature were to change, it would no longer match the public key.

Either way there won’t be a way to know for sure who edited the comment

The goal is only to know if the OP edited it or not. It doesn't really matter who edited it if it wasn't the OP. The only important information would be that it wasn't the OP.

but well they can just tell you that.

Verifying with the user's public key accomplishes the same, and is independent of a direct audit from the user.

Hm, one must be careful with such lines of thinking. Self-defense should be protected, and upheld based on principle, and not simply because it was used against someone who may socially detestable.

If you look at this documentation it outlines various methods of generating URL thumbnails. Essentially, a separate request from the client for only the URL is made to the server which then returns a thumbnail. It's an absolutely moronic design choice, if you ask me.

EDIT (2023-10-02T01:35Z): Do note that the link that I provided is for Synapse v1.37 -- Synapse is currently on v1.97. Curiously, the documentation for the new versions of Synapse have removed the sections talking about URL previews. I'm not sure what's up with that.

How was it handled on Reddit? Did the moderators have to handle it there as well, or did Reddit filter it out beforehand?

[-] Kalcifer@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

It’s not just about lemm.ee, the up/down of federation is that stuff from lemm.ee gets copied to all the other federated instances and vice versa. So lemm.ee’s region aside, this move tries to help protect the fediverse at large by removing a major distribution hub.

That's a fair point! Thanks!
