There is a shocking amount of people on Lemmy that just simply seem to believe that science literally is magic and can do anything with enough money behind it.

No facts needed. No study in the field. And won't even take the word of specialists and actual scientists, cause they just feel right in their heart and the world/Internet has made them feel like that's enough.

Maybe it's over optimism to not be depressed but gosh is it annoying.

A lot of people wear masks. Life's a stage and we are just performing for the masses.

Gameification and weird cryptic terms like "high value".

Oh man have you seen that ad that is all about how it's a dating site only for "high value" people called like Elite Singles or some bullshit.

Literally they make it seem everyone is literally some Sherlock type when most people that think they are, are much more likely Lastrade except hyping crypto more.

I think everyone is just looking for a way to pretend harder that nothing is wrong and if they grind their face against the wheel a little harder they will be finally able to be good enough off to not think about it all. It seems miserable.

Kobuk Valley National Park has warmed by 2.4 degrees Celsius (4.32 degrees Fahrenheit) since 2006 and could get another 10.2 degrees C hotter by 2100

Oh... Yeah no wonder they can say with confidence that this is climate change related. Wild that we basically ripped the cork off a poison bomb to ecology.

I worked very briefly for a company that was hirable to push websites for SEO. It was basically all young underpaid contractors and interns even the HR team except for upper management who was all the same people from their previous big company running telemarketing bullshit.

So yeah just want to add the usual suspects definitely had a hand in the enshitification of the search engine as you might think.

For every person writing an "ugh you must be a Redditor"/"I thought I left this behind on Reddit" type comment

Oh my God right? This bull shit.

I want to like lemmy because I don't want to support a web platform that so clearly thinks so little of its users and aims for monetization that involves literally just paying for comments you want to hear.

But this self assured that lemmy is the hottest shit stuff needs to cool off. I mean look at who started this platform and the large communities of people with super simplified garbage takes on anything with an iota of complexity and you realize that people here just want to be superior without doing anything superior. But that is a great way to be lonely forever.

So, there is some interesting studies on the effect that sadness and depression have on music taste and ability to listen to the lyrics.

Quite literally it breaks down to people who are happy tend to just want to hear music and don't comprehend or want lyrically complicated songs. People who are depressed or at high risk for it tend to be more seeking more complex story telling and will be more aware of the lyrics.

Now why that is would probably win you science grant if you could quantify it. I think it comes back around a bit to "ignorance is bliss" a pretty accurate statement of the world that people that just don't know don't and don't care they don't know are already pretty happy or content with how they know existence to be and don't seek out more. While people more depressed are searching for kindred souls and the feeling of belonging and so listen for more of that empathetic response.

Now one of the other really interesting things of these studies is that heavy death metal music is in the same level as like alternative indie prog-rock for depression listeners, which I think really goes back to that desire to feel emotion and joined experience even if it's just rage or anger.

So, all that to say if you went from just hearing the rhythm to really digging the lyrics check in with your mental health cause it might be that you are seeking out more complex emotions and could be at risk for more serious emotional states.

Me personally I've always listened to the lyrics since I was a child.

No no... it's the part that Sony owns a headphone company, and a TV company, and their first product was a rice cooker.

The point was that they enter a space using funds from one of their other arms to strongarm away competition and become a conglomerate that owns and operates a huge percentage of people's lives and product purchases leaving almost no breathing room for other companies to ever enter.

It's not about refund policy or their games it's about the subsidized products they can only afford by min/maxing other economic spaces they control
