I played several games with a group of friends and we now have biweekly meetups to play a few rounds of Blood on the Clocktower. I was wondering if anyone else played it?

It's a social deduction game with the same idea as Mafia/Werewolf or Town of Salem where all the players are either on the good team or the evil team. The good team has to find who's on the evil team by sharing information. The evil team consists of one Demon and at least one Minion (depending on player count). The goal is for the good team to find and execute the Demon, while the evil team has to try to convince the town that they're good.

What I like about it is that each player has their own unique role. There are a bunch of different roles with different abilities, whether it be getting information or having the ability to do something. There are even roles for different demons and minions with their own abilities. You're also allowed to go into private discussions, and dead players still play a part in the game. Dead players can still talk to other players and they have a dead vote that they can use to vote someone else (although if you use your dead vote, you lose it). I also like that you can talk during the night, although we have a house rule that you're not allowed to talk about the game during the night out loud (if we're playing online we're allowed to use text chat).

There's also so many custom scripts that combine all sorts of roles, including experimental ones that are released every month but aren't in the official scripts.

Does anyone else enjoy Blood on the Clocktower?

I saw a video once of a prank where two girls go up to a stranger asking them to take a picture of them across the street. The stranger takes the photo and when the two girls start crossing over to the other side, a car passes by and the two girls are replaced with two old men wearing the same shirts. Even the Polaroid photo shows the old men. It's genuinely funny and completely harmless. It just makes the person getting pranked go, "Wait, what the fuck???"

I do hope the people were told that they were pranked though and that they don't live the rest of their lives thinking they're insane 😂

ETA: also this video where the guy puts on the collar and leash of his blind husband's service dog when he asks him to go get his watch. (He immediately reveals himself when the blind husband gets back to pick up his service dog's leash again and the husband thinks it's hysterical).

I was devastated to learn the creators intended it to be pronounced "jif" like the peanut butter brand

So obviously a lot of us are partial to kbin/Lemmy but have any of you explored the other alternatives like Raddle, Squabbles.io, and Tildes?

I made an account on Raddle because r/egg_irl and r/ennnnbyyy moved there and I also made one on Squabbles.io because some of the subreddits I joined had an analogous one on Squabbles.io. I haven't use either enough to form a good opinion on them. Raddle seems to be predominantly political, and I'm trying to limit my exposure to politics and prevent doomscrolling.

What are your thoughts on these alternatives?

I also heard that some people detransition after finding out they are nonbinary. One of my high school teachers has a friend who is a trans woman who stopped taking hormones because it changed her body more than she was comfortable with. I wouldn't be surprised if there are detransitioners who detransition because they realize that medical transitioning wasn't right for them.

It makes me so sad that so many detransitioners are being used as "proof" that trans people aren't valid or that it's an agenda

It's pretty shitty for a company to force someone to use a phone app or go to something as vital as a bank just because they won't let the customer access the website. And there are plenty of reasons why someone wouldn't be able to go to the bank in person every time they needed to, or at least it'd be extremely inconvenient to (especially for small things like checking your balance or transactions). Not everyone has a phone either.

Change your email provider? Run your own email like people should?

I've never deleted my email before but I'm pretty sure that means losing access to your entire inbox that you've likely had for years and having to update your contacts, the emails for all the accounts you have under it, etc. And being blocked from the website means you won't be able to do any of those things through the official website. Does device atteststion prevent you from accessing your email through third party clients?

Also, it's not exactly easy or practical to host your own email. And for many people that would mean spending money on servers. I read a blog post last year of someone who gave up hosting their own email after 23 years doing so.

Apple stopped giving their new products the"i" prefix because they weren't able to trademark it because "you can't trademark a letter."

I doubt that they'll allow Elon Musk to trademark the letter "x"

Basically you're a radio host in a small town and there is a killer on the lose. The sheriff is dead and phone extensions won't work so one of the only officers this town has has to go out of town to get help, so now all the 911 calls are being redirected to you and you need to give people advice and guide them to avoid the killer. You need to look around the radio station building for clues and information on how to help the callers escape the killer. It even involves mystery solving skills in a few parts. It also takes place in 1987 and it definitely has the 80s aesthetic and theme throughout.

It's about 6 hours long and somewhat pricey (it's on sale until July 31st for $20 USD as opposed to its normal $25 price tag), but I definitely don't regret spending that money because it was so fun and engaging the entire time. One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

Image Description: A screenshot from the game Papers, Please that shows a man as the current entrant. His passport is on the player's desk. The passport says that his name is "Parabol, Stanislav".

I love Mlem and wefwef.app so far. I've seen a lot of people mention Memmy but I haven't really used it yet.

What do you like to use for mobile Lemmy?

It is the coolest thing to see a major corporation contributing so much to Linux gaming. Linux gaming is more viable than ever and it's amazing!!!
