You would honestly probably be fine after a short while with lower frame rates. Guaranteed you used to game at those slower frame/refresh rates and never knew better.

I absolutely agree there's still benefit to be had above 60, but 60 is still mostly fine. Unless I guess all you do is ultra competitive gaming where twitch reactions are necessary.

And most other countries also have much stricter gun control laws too.

We could work on those things and the gun problem too.

So again, you are being very transparent by completely disregarding the guns as if they somehow aren't part of the gun violence problem.

Either way. I think this is where I drop out of this. We are going in circles and while I agree we should work on the things you mention, we clearly just disagree about the actual guns themselves. And of course neither of us are actually in a direct position to make changes to any of those things, I assume. So you have a good one.

I personally didn't propose any of those policies. I genuinely don't know what would work best. I just think you are being really transparent in treating the guns themselves as having nothing to do with the issue of gun violence.

I think everything you were saying would be great to accomplish. It's just really disingenuous to propose them knowing there is a slim chance any of them will happen while completely ignoring the actual guns, just because you want to keep your guns.

We do have a societal problem. We also very much have a gun problem.

And proposing all these other things you know won't get accomplished is a way to shift all the responsibility away from the gun issue itself.

And you aren't being emotional about even the thought of some more gun control or anything to even tackle that issue head on? Come on.

I didn't specify a plan one way or another. I just think it's crazy that the talking points you presented seem pretty clearly designed to just kick this issue down the road, cause at least that way you still get to have your guns.

And believe me, solving all those things you mentioned would be great. But why not also try and do something about the major gun issues at the same time too?

Professional video gamers exist too.

I get that too, but I dont think social media is really a great place to get a representative idea of how people are truly feeling about things.

A lot of social media tends to evolve into echo chambers, so not great for wider views. As mentioned too, it's not great for nuance. While I think most people are probably capable of getting the nuance of a situation, when "discussing" things online, having to type your thoughts out into a few small paragraphs, that all just seems to get completely lost, and only the bullet points, which are often the most extreme parts, remain.

Lemmy is also seemingly filled with tankies and people that seem like they want to be edgy just to be edgy or specifically to push certain viewpoints/ideologies. And considering that it's not a widely adopted platform, I think it's especially not representative of people as a whole.

And of course with the anonymity of the internet, people know they can say stuff just to get other people frustrated or angry with no consequences to their own personal lives.

I agree overall. Modders can and should be compensated for their work if they want. But I would personally much prefer if they offer it for free and allow for donations. That's a much better way to build a community. Especially since they are building sometimes small modifications on games they had no part in creating. And I especially am not a fan when they require you to subscribe to a patreon, with the idea essentially being that it could become a subscription.

I also checked out the mod patreon page. The author kinda sucks. People are voicing their frustration that he essentially added drm to a mod and his response is either that he doesn't care or...

So you didn't read. The authentication doesn't affect subscribers, if you have ever subscribed you can always pass the authentication. Only the people who want to pirate it should get pissed

Uhhh that's still drm.

I was wondering the same thing too. Hexbear and lemmygrad seem quite toxic and I would prefer just not to interact with those instances at all. Did some searching though and it doesnt appear that this is something that can be done in lemmy at a user level (at least for now), only at an instance level. So I guess the best bet is to either find an instance that isn't federated with them, or just block their communities whenever they show up in your feed.
