Because FSR3 is really new, released Sep 2023. Even the games that actually can patch in FSR3 didn't get to do it properly until Avatar nailed it and just earlier this month released another update to push it further. In short, AMD is working with devs to improve their plugin integration to various engine devs, and I don't think 3.1 is the "end goal".

FSR 3's result really depends on how developer understand and work with the proposed render pipeline compare to DLSS(which basically runs AI kernal to guess what pixel values to fill). Especially with games that features pip scope(fake UI scopes with on the fly fov changes are fine) or some translucent elements where it can not do the velocity buffer properly. (basically most of the fringeness on edge or flickering/swimming are mostly from precision, and ghosting are from wrong velocity when you see the old FSR artifacts).

FSR Quality preset for 1080p only render at 720p, while DLSS Quality render at whatever next available resolution the fits so it would likely render at 1600x900. It is possible to render with Ultra Quality preset similar to what Avatar developer made at 1.2x upscale, but it does not come in standard. The video have over half of benchmarking using outdated version(only 2 on FSR3) and comparing pretty much different tech. Anyone with decent enough graphics tech knowledge knows it will not have good result with FSR since it does not doing use AI to help filling the missing pixels. AI is surprisingly good when doing upscaling and filling in the details( if you know what those image generator do at internal res and keep upscaling and tweaking the images), while shader solution relies on input information for better work. Means, if the input frame rate or resolution is too low, it's not gonna work as intended. (similar to the newer optical flow frame gen also rely on frame rate being stable for better frame gen result. )

You don't have to like AMD nor FSR's result, but comparing result while ignoring the implementation detail and what are the techs are for is like comparing beer and scotch and then complain why scotch doesn't give you the burp.

Newer fluid motion thing does work for older and card though. But FSR3 would be better cause it has direct frame buffer information.

Yeah, we don't need something that just infinitely milk money, plenty of those in real life already.

If some dev comes up with a self hosted dedicated server stuff like Minecraft and are also fun and easy to mod, they are going to make banks(not at scale of those GaaS) and they would probably last longer than all other fortnite wannabe.

Or, simply just make good games.

Lol, Microsoft played that game so long and just give up and just get paid by pressure/bundle sale to the business. Let's see how long Google can keep up with the milking game.

I didn't mess around with settings etc. Basically anytime I saw the full page detector thing I just close the tab. I do exactly this for any site I visit basically, there are too many other things to do, if they don't want me there I don't have to stay.

I don't understand the recent trend of making cards like 2060 sounds like the lowest you can go for "recommended", and any developer puts even 3070 as recommended suddenly become lazy. No, it is because everyone is starting to move on to PS5/Series X as the "baseline" spec as they are almost 3 years old now and pretty much become the "majority" of the gaming market.(note, PC takes really small amount of the gaming population even when you don't count mobile gaming.)

So if you go check what is consider PS5/Series X equivalent PC parts, it's the 3070/6700XT. People with lower spec machines should be glad that developer even want to put more efforts to accommodate your needs and release a game that supports your hardware in the hope to get some extra bucks if you feel happy about the result.(honestly it really is a pita for dev team ) It is perfectly reasonable to release a product that just can't run on older hardware, the developer is constantly making that decision during and even after game released with patches to address newer hardware being released. (this part I mean newer hardware but at lower performing tier, ie. the [x]060s)

Older gamer has experience the era where games just can't run on CPU anymore and you have to buy extra GPU and extra audio cards to get all the features delivered. It was acceptable then why not claiming developers are lazy because the game can't run on my Pentium 4 with Riva TNT2(I had 256MB ram and the last aureal 3d audio card).

There are other developer making games that also targets older hardware, play those and vote with your wallet. Or, use your 4080 GPU budget to buy PS5/Series X AND whatever latest switch and you can play like 99% of games released and not missing any exclusives. (Yes, you can buy all 3 consoles with the price of 1 super inflated GPU card. )

Many modern AAA games has become glorified toilet paper rolls. They tried to keep manufacture then in hopes to milk everything possible, then when you are at the end of roll they hype and sell you a new one. Make them feel like you absolutely have to play the next installment to get a closure or something new branching out.(prequel/sequel/reboot/timelines/etc.)

It was unsustainable at the pace and amount pre-covid, unhealthy for hardcore gamers as well. We have to actively not buying and playing new games cause I can play certain amount per day/week.

With covid and post covid, I actually finished more games compare to before. Well, the extra 2 hours not needed to commute I can do whatever I wanted.

Then don't buy it, they keep the price because people keep buying over priced GPUs.

It was done to do the both side of if/else while waiting for the check to finish, then it jumps to the correct branch result execution point to keep going, whatever that was "wrong" is wasted and should be flushed. Don't know if this fits the modern definition but that's why they do this type of thing.

Actual design or implementation is more complex than I described as there are a couple ways to tackle this branching delay issue.

So in this sense, no I did not actually played star citizen, but as initial backer I wonder if I should even try it? Since you played for years, could you mind sharing the following things? (so I can see to get some entertainment out of my backing dollars. )

  • how much real world currency affects the gameplay? From early backing new release your ship can break needs maintenance and insurance, how's the currently implemented in game?
  • what's the game structured like? is it more quest driven with some story? Or really open ended MMO community driven(more EVE like)? If it's something else please give a description.
  • what's the fun part when playing the game?
  • how resource intensive the game is, computer spec and storage?
  • is it always online or you can play offline? Does it have subscription based stuff?
