Most states only provide a public defender for indigent clients who make less than a certain amount. If you are above that threshold, you will have to come up with the money for a private attorney. Funny how Trump had these clowns do his bidding then bailed on them when they needed help. I guess he has time to reconsider his actions while he sits in jail.

It’s also important to note that the judge mentioned him assaulting two FBI agents as part of the denial of bail. Even with a lawyer, he may have been denied bond.

The Far Side are some of the best comic strips ever. I doubt I’d need to, but I’d die on that hill.

This is just going to be a never ending battle. They propose a backdoor, companies and privacy organizations oppose it, they drop it, they bring it up at a later date. They won’t stop until they can see everything you do.

Are hotel fires worse than other fires?

The title is a little misleading. This ruling is only regarding the preliminary injunction. There is still an ongoing suit with the FTC and we will need to wait for that to be resolved. However, knowing how these things go, Microsoft will make a ton of promises about creating jobs, keeping their content available to everyone, and agreeing to play fair. They will get approval and immediately turn around and terminate a ton of jobs, start making things exclusive, and backtrack on their promises. Then…nothing will happen. There will be no repercussions. Rinse and repeat.
