These NPCs would have to be written by people too. Otherwise you'd just get ChatGPT. Depending on complexity, it might even require more writing work.
Where I live, it used to be Twingos instead of Beetles for some reason.
The way it works right now is usually over the cloud. I've already tried out a bit of "Convai" as a developer, which is a platform where you can create LLM NPCs and put them in Unreal Engine. It's pretty neat, not perfect, but you can definitely give characters thousands of lines of backstory if you want and they will act in character. They will also remember any conversations a player had with them previously and can refer to them in later convos. Can still be fairly obvious that you're talking to an LLM though, if you know what to ask and what to look for. Due to its cloud-based nature, there is also some delay between the player input and the response. But it has a lot of potential for dialog systems where you can do way more than just choose between 4 predefined sentences. Especially once running these things locally won't be a performance-issue.
Good to know that there is now a testing branch for a wifi driver. That wasn't the case when I wrote the original comment I was talking about. Still, this took almost a year of selling a tablet with no working wifi. There is inconvenience and then there is a product just being in an unfinished, effectively unusable state. I don't really see how having no wifi driver is "freedom". The freedom to code my own driver? I guess, but that doesn't make for an actually usable device.
Heh, kinda, but it's basically just a way to save taxes. The 50€ I get on there each month are legally considered "non-cash benefits", which aren't taxed.
Yeah. It would probably have been more work to take a Pokemon model and modify it to this extent compared to making it from scratch. Some of the designs in Palworld definitely took heavy Pokemon inspirations to the point of almost being a rip-off, but so far the evidence for actual asset theft is not convincing at all.
No, I like them. They bring some variety to landscapes. Many people here hate them though.
I've initially considered getting the ad-free version, as I did buy it for Reddit Sync, but so far I'm not getting any ads in the free version anyway.
Probably didn't harm me ultimately, as he did prescribe regular medicine when it was really needed (in addition to some sugar pills usually). Still, it might not have harmed me, but it sure didn't help me, only filling the pockets of some quack companies.
We gotta remain vigilant.
Agreed, but I disagree about the first part. It being only available in webviews can't really be abused and makes all the difference. Sure they could try to reintroduce all the bad stuff, even if the had cancelled it altogether, but for now this is a success.
Eh, if you want a scapegoat you generally wouldn't use the CEO for that. Plus, he is known for pushing shady practices at EA as well, so I have no doubt he was a major driving force behind their original monetisation scheme. I don't think they will try the same thing again, as it was just a really dumb idea that wouldn't have made sense for anyone, including Unity themselves who don't even have a reliable method of tracking installs.
I frequently wear a flatcap.
