I've met Israelis who have fled from serving, if you're outside the country between 18 and 30, iirc, you skip it.

Also there are conscientious objectors who choose state sanction over serving.

I also think in Israel you can choose to do service in social service and community service roles over combat ones.

The big area to push should be on Office.

The new versions of Office with that ribbon are terribly user unfriendly (or maybe just non-basic user unfriendly) so hitting that and pushing Libre Office could net some good adoption.

But I guess that's competing against GoogleDocs and the like these days... But we don't wanna give the Big G that data.

Because they fired the guy whose job it was to tell the press who got fired. So there is no longer an official record.

Nah, posts like an American who started with good intentions but has taken America bad to mean that places that oppose the US therefore must be good/better.

The speech by the former US diplomat they like to post is worth a read, as despite some odd dubious or cherry picked data the conclusions are bang on the money, and it is right about it all being a very real politik, not actually good for Ukraine, approach by the US and NATO.

It also has the former diplomat state that Europe (that famously single and unanimous entity), as well as Zelensky (at least before 2024) and Ukraine want peace, and the US and Russia are both more involved in prolonging war to better their own outcomes.

open source is not the only ethical form of technology

and

that open source is always ethical tech

are not the same supposition. Or are you maintaining both are correct?

Also, I think the idea here is that any of the new ways if using the pre-existing data are doing nothing new or useful, and are in fact - evil.

It's hard to when no space or support is allowed for criticism of capitalism in mainstream politics.

The Far Right has been given huge amounts of media coverage in the UK, maxes headlines whenever they sneeze. Left of centre left parties never get given positive - or even balanced - coverage.

Either you tar and feather them with whatever sticks (Corbyn, Melchanthon), or ignore them (Yanofakis, Lucas).

Yes, the Left could, must, do better at telling a narrative about what it is for and will do. But detailed criticism or self and systemic issues doesn't galvanise people the way "we're great but under threat" does.

At least the Republican backed genocide will also be making life living hell for LGBTQI people, women, and migrants in the US as well.

I ran into exactly the same thing:

My response to illustrate how it was wrong, for the young and unaware who can get suckered into the "just asking questions" alt-right neo-fasc pipeline, included:

Various metallurgical and mining techniques. Medical techniques both ancient and new. A new type of syringe. Varieties of boats. Dolosse Blocks. Coffee as a drink.

I don't think a stereotype can ever really be constructive, even if "positive" since it limits the space for people that don't fit it.

A clear example of this would be that Asian people are good at Maths. Not true, and does a lot of harm to the many Asians who are not exceptionally good at Maths. (For instance that Asian University candidates are often penalised for only having average Maths grades, or just the bullying and social pressure of feeling you're not living up to a birthright.)

I posit the reverse: that some corporations choose to display tokenistic commodified support because overall social pressure exists to show support of some kind.
