From the title "Junior Video Editor" and your description of the salary you proposed it sounds like this is an entry-level job that'll probably go to someone fresh out of school.

It's hard to read too much into it because this might just be a form letter, but it sounds like they genuinely thought you were a good candidate but they were looking for a more junior position. Sometimes this is dictated by their budget available.

Even if this is a form letter, they probably have a letter for the case where the salary was OK but they never want to hear from the candidate again. So you didn't get that letter, at least!

It looks like this was a "near miss". It's discouraging, but keep at it, you can do it.

I’m torn because I want to tell him to leave me alone, that I don’t care about his life, but considering the ‘offense’ this seems too much and knowing me I’d immediately regret it and feel bad about it.

Imagine someone has a huge booger hanging out of their nose. It might be embarassing that you point it out to them, but it's a lot more embarassing if they walk around with the booger hanging there. It's the same with this. If you're polite but direct, there's nothing to feel bad about, you're helping the guy learn where the line is.

Tell your boss to DELAY in making the decision, then to DENY uhc, and if uhc complains then DEFEND the decision.

Relative: You know about computers, right?

Me: I'm not sure. Who knows about computers, really? In the words of W.S. McCulloch, "What is a number, that a man may know it, and a man, that he may know a number?" (if you'll pardon the gendered language) Now if you extend this to computation...

Relative: All right, STFU, I just wanted to know how to update my Amazon account...

The article is a lot more nuanced than the headline. Arab- and Muslim-Americans knew that neither candidate cared about them, and the article explains various ways that affected their thinking.
