They're a company - their only purpose is to make money. They don't hate emulation, they hate not making the absolute maximum amount of money they possibly can. Public use of emulation lowers their profits, while their own use of emulation helps increase their profits. It's not some weird enigma or hypocrisy - money is the singular driving factor for every company; every action they take traces back to making more money. This is why we need much tighter regulation instead of trusting companies to "be reasonable" or "do the right thing."

One of the few things I miss from Reddit were the extra small communities like the one for QC. I liked being able to chat with the 30 other people who read this comic daily.

That's the issue with American politics. It's so overtaken by corporate lobbying that "good candidate" and "electable candidate" are mutually exclusive.

I've seen plenty of people who think they could take hard, addictive drugs and not get addicted, or that the addiction would be a small price to pay for the highs of the drug. Plenty of people have far too much self confidence for their small understanding of the situation. It's why drugs like heroin are still around; if everyone intrinsically understood that they're not worth it, they'd have disappeared a long time ago.

Why the long face?

It's been a while since I learned about cations and anions, but I still remember their charges by thinking of anions as onions that need a single sharp blade to cut, making a "-" sign, while cations have 2 front paws of sharp claws that make a "+" sign. It's a dumb way of remembering that I came up with on the spot when I first learned about them, but I still remember after more than a decade.

Yeah, we'd be a hell of a lot closer to true equality if groups of people who are among those who need help the most were already truly receiving it.

Unfortunately, the world as it's currently designed only allows people to live well if they take from others, and those who are prepared to do that have long since realized they live a lot longer if they convince the people they're stepping on that it's the guy next to them they should hate, not the guy on top of them.

Well, she's already dying of breast cancer that she found while it was still DCIS, but continues to refuse anything but quack treatments even as it's progressed to stage 4, so I doubt a bit of uranium ore will be what takes her out in the end.

Probably autocorrected a misspelled "Black's law."

Let me break down the original post for you, since you're refusing to understand it for some reason. Free ice cream is a ridiculous thing that would never happen, but would be amazing if it did, and countries like Finland seem to often be in the news for doing amazing things. Banning wheelchair ramps is a ridiculous thing that would never happen, but would be terrible if it did, and the USA seems to often be in the news for doing terrible things. You understand the meaning of a hyperbole - you're just being obtuse.

Yeah, people don't realize that people with abusive parents have been raised to believe that abuse is normal - even good for them. The first major hurdle is getting someone to realize that there's even a problem to fix, or that the problem to fix isn't themselves.

I feel like the high-end buyer's don't care about how much they like their possessions, they care about how expensive their possessions sound when described to others. They couldn't tell that the SI was less pure, but they knew they couldn't describe it to their friends as the purest, so they didn't care.
