Yeah, I could see it being an issue for some less-common type of indicator, but everyone who drives knows what a blinker looks like. Nobody would mistake it for anything other than the right hand turn signal.

Hell, I wouldn't even notice the shape of the light; all you need to notice while driving is the presence of a flashing light on the right side of the vehicle - if you're looking intently enough to notice the shape of the light, you're not paying enough attention to everything else on the road.

Don't Speak by No Doubt.

It was the first time I actively listened to a sad song, and while I was only 4 or so, and couldn't really understand what the lyrics were about, I remember the emotion feeling so powerful. The radio station that played it went off air when I was 5, and I cried about it a lot. To this day I gravitate toward sad songs; there's just something about minor chords that I can't get enough of.

... I can't tell if you're serious or not, but if you're honestly so put-off by human connection and comradery, I'm disappointed. Kind of a weird take from someone on Lemmy if that's the case, though.

Don't fight for yourself, fight for the community.

It doesn't matter what I want, it matters what the community as a whole wants, and we want more than just pirating. Nobody's hiding, we're just not missing the forest for the trees; it's not honesty in discussion to boil and entire group of people down to the desires of just the few people in this thread, it's just being self-centered.

If you want to talk about what you as an individual want, feel free, but don't act like it's the definitive thing to discuss when the community is greater than all of us.

It's good, but we're not good for doing it. We're acting like tyrants - supplying the guns that kill their friends and loved ones with one hand, and supplying the food that keeps them alive with the other. We're playing with their lives, saving or condemning them on a whim. I always felt I'd have done something if I'd been a German during WWII, but here I am doing nothing but posting on social media as if that's any better than "Thoughts and Prayers."

It doesn't matter if you're blind or not if you're not going to bother to look. Most people simply don't assess their media for underlying messages. They see Professor X as the good guy and Magneto as a bad guy, and don't think any more about them. They don't ask how or why they can be identified as the protagonist/antagonist, they just identify the general alignment and that's it.

Definitely. Aside from sex chromosome trisomies which often have such little impact that they may go entirely undiagnosed, trisomy 21 is by far the least severe. Trisomy 13 and 18 are usually unviable pregnancies, and when they do survive until birth, they're severely disabled and often don't survive to their first year of life.

The issue is that people generally view their situation not by how much they have, but how much more they have than others. It's like a race to these people - who's winning isn't based on how close to the goal they are, it's based on how far ahead of the competitors they are. People who have everything they need often see others getting to that same point as competitors catching up, and, seeing that they are not advancing themselves, they feel that they need to prevent that in order to maintain their lead. It's meant to be everyone working together, but few see it that way, especially among the current "winners."

All the more reason to never treat them as inevitable. It's not a bad thing to both accept that we'll never fully overcome them, but to try our hardest anyway - that's what keeps them to a minimum. If we were to stop trying to avoid them, the scientific process would degrade even more.

Yeah, just measure the thickness of the side of the table and you can pretty easily make or get clips that fit snugly and attach to drink holders, lap desks, card holders, dice trays, and more! Probably get some felt pads or something so they don't scratch the nice finish.

Huh, you're right. I don't think I've ever seen a piece of mail without it - I just figured it was necessary.

I had this exact thought back in high school, and for some reason I still remember it every so often and just sit there, thankful I can breathe so well in that moment.
