I genuinely don't get why someone's notifications are so sacred to them to this extent. This was a one-off event that was done purely to get people migrating over to the new community. Which it seems to have done. Some people aren't bothered by it, presumably because they did subscribe here.
It scraped comments, not subscribers. You commented here before.
Correct. There's movies for that. It's split into movies and television.
In the event of the transition, television will be promoted heavily. This particular community, moviesandtv has clearly seen better days. I used communities to promote ObscureMusic and quidlupled its activity (going from like 30 subscribers to over 165), and have had other people posting due to this.
By low karma I mean -100 types.
The traffic on Reddit is massive for highly populated subreddits. And these subreddits that restrict low karma account activities aren't doing it for any profit motive.
I understand Lemmy isn't really big enough for this to be a concern here.
Unfortunately, on reddit - when subreddits restrict new posters or low karma commenters, they're just trying to mitigate the impact of trolls and bots and people making new accounts. It's not about being elitist.
Yeah, I often just forget to upvote generally. Although this could lead to argumentative posters making troll posts, getting engagement and trending just because people reply to them.
This may not be an inherently bad thing given that low karma accounts tend to be trolls.
Yeah, I made television because I didn't think showsandmovies mod team was active. I was then headhunted to help out there. I don't know where television stands now though even if I think it has the best name for... well, tv-posting. Whilst I agree with "showsandmovies" is an odd name as its been repurposed for TV primarily... but it seems to be the most popular and developed.
But whilst you can obviously overlap to some degree, movies and tv are just as commonly separate communities so from 4 you can get at least 2.
!trailers should be, imo, on the sidebar of showsandmovies.
Let me know if I've missed any. It's tedious to compile all this because no streaming service seems to understand how to actually share whats coming next properly.
