I like the arm world because you don't have only two players which are boring and are not good at all if you think of a world wide technological progress. It's a rather poor world actually.

I'm trying a cheap arm Chromebook now and I can say it could replace a standard pc/mac already, in terms of performances. Mediatek can already challenge apple and snapdragon so we already have 3 players but I think Samsung, and unisoc will enter the arena. Rockchip already did it with chromebooks and they look enough too.

In case of a disk image, to test or use a different distro (or a distro inside windows) without repartitioning the drive.

Check "Installing windows in a disk image", that's genial. https://github.com/sebanc/linuxloops/blob/main/Readme/Recommended-setups.md

If the disk is not encrypted you can go wubi, it's a windows app that will install Ubuntu in a virtual disk. You can use it forever without touching windows and also upgrade it with newer Ubuntu version: Check under assets here https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi/releases

Kubuntu + adguard DNS and you're done. Good looking desktop which is fun to configure for a kid. Dolphin file manager can show the terminal in a tab, which is good to learn. Nothing compares.
