Not OP but I’m interested, so here’s a reminder

My confusion continues to compound. Many of the people in this thread have zero issue with video games or actually play them. I really gotta see a source for

solarpunk writers are rarely, if ever, gamers.

Agreed, it seems really odd for any such society to do away with something so beloved

[-] TeryVeneno@lemmy.ml 6 points 7 months ago

Um, but the majority of video games are not made by big tech? What is your point? Indie games are usually just better overall anyway. I’m really failing to see why any solarpunk society would stop people from making video games

I didn’t even think there were serious solar punk stories, and even if so, aren’t all of them like technological utopias? Why would entertainment ie video games be gone from them? Even if they aren’t the focus (which makes sense) what reason would a solar punk society have to do away with video games?

Because people value narratives and stories. Those experiences make them feel all sorts of emotions during the gameplay. You’re not saving anyone time or money because they didn’t get those emotions or the experience. I play games for all of that, if you can’t provide step aside.

That’s interesting, I assume you use a business use case and not a personal one? I’ve been using Nextcloud for my family and friends on an at home server and it’s been a great experience. Maybe they need to work on their scalability.

Yes and no, the humans doing the "saving" and the ones doing the "killing" are different groups. So it’s still technically a save but only as far as different humans have different interests. The culpability is still as a whole on us as a species.

Why are people so toxic? This is a KDE post, at least celebrate the work being done instead of bashing people for no reason

If you use sites like this and you have epubs and pdfs to contribute, make sure that you do! I recently uploaded a book I had access to from my school days for others to use through libgen. I had to search really hard to find it when I didn’t have a lot of money for textbooks. I hope what I uploaded helps others. Be sure to contribute!

I’m not sure if there is a way on the web interfaces, but many of the mobile apps being developed incorporate filter lists for keywords. I remember I used Mlem’s filters during the beans trend since I wasn’t interested in those posts.
